Horizon Shipbuilding Delivers Two Towboats
Both Milestones Met In Same Week. Horizon Shipbuilding has delivered the fourth in a series of 120’ Towboats to Florida Marine Transporters of Mandeville, LA. The M/V Dale Artigue joins her sister ships, M/V’s Capt. W. D. Nunley, Capt. Kirby Dupuis and Brees in pushing cargoes throughout the inland waterways of the United States. “Like the other towboats we have built, the Artigue adds to FMT’s stable of workhorses,” said Ben Forrest, Horizon Project Manager.
USNS Montford Point Floated from NASSCO Building Dock
General Dynamics NASSCO completed the complex float out operation for the first Mobile Landing Platform (MLP) ship, USNS Montford Point. Construction of the USNS Montford Point is progressing ahead of schedule, with the ship currently at 91% complete. The ship will now undergo final outfitting and testing pier side before completing sea trials. USNS Montford Point is scheduled to be christened in March 2013 and delivered to the U.S. Navy in May 2013.

Intermanager Supports Seafarers' Survey
InterManager, the international trade association for the shipmanagement and crewmanagement industry, is supporting a survey which aims to identify how much of a burden red tape places on seafarers. The Association is urging its members to encourage their staff to take part in the online survey, being organised by the Danish Maritime Authority. The worldwide study aims to identify seafarers' perception of administrative burdens and how these influence their daily working lives.
Huge Section of HMS Queen Elizabeth Arrives at Rosyth
The Final hull section of aircraft carrier HMS Queen Elizabeth has arrived at Babcock’s Rosyth dockyard. The 11,300 tonne aft section of hull, known as Lower Block 04 (LB04), made its way under the Forth Bridges shortly before 11am on Remembrance Sunday. It left BAE Systems’ yard on the Clyde last Sunday (November 4). The section has travelled all the way around the south coast to reach the Fife assembly site, a journey of more than 1,200 miles.

First Voith Water Tractor with Fully ECS
Shipowner Fukushima Kisen based in Iwaki on the east coast of Japan has commissioned the first Voith Water Tractor (VWT) with a fully electronic control system (ECS). On the ECS version, the hydraulic unit is no longer separate but is installed on the rotor casing foundation of the Voith Schneider Propeller (VSP). Not only does this save space, but it also simplifies maintenance and increases reliability. The new VWT Shinano has been designed for harbor assistance and escort duties.

Proserv secure a £1.2-million contract to supply topside control equipment at a major southern North Sea development. NYK hosts cruise aboard their Japan-based cruise ship to the region worst affected by the earthquake.
