Escher, Chairman, Red and White FleetIn 1960, Tom Escher, the grandson of the founder and now the current owner, started working as a sweeper and a mechanics helper on the Red and White vessels. In 1997, Escher purchased the Red and White Fleet, becoming the third generation of the family to own and operate the business. In September 2018, Red and White Fleet welcomed Enhydra, the newest and largest addition to the fleet. Enhydra is the first 600-passenger hybrid-drive vessel operating in the United States.

Equinor, Eidesvik in Ammonia-Fueled PSV Pact

Norwegian oil company Equinor has signed a deal with vessel owner Eidesvik Offshore to test the use of carbon-free ammonia as a fuel aboard the Viking Energy platform supply vessel.Equinor has awarded Eidesvik Offshore a five-year contract with effect from April 2020, when the current contract for the vessel expires. The Viking Energy supply vessel will in the contract period be part of a research project developing, installing and testing long-distance sailing fuelled by carbon-free ammonia fuel cells.

Meyer Werft to Launch 3 Cruise Ships in 2020

German shipyard Meyer Werft GmbH & Co. KG is all set to to launch three cruise ships in 2020. During the shipyard has handed over three modern cruise ships to international cruise lines. "In the last twelve months alone, we have taken on 395 new employees in Papenburg, thus enlarging our team to more than 3625 people. We continue to recruit new col-leagues in all parts of the shipyard," said Tim Meyer, Managing Director of Meyer Werft.The shipyard has taken on all the 45 trainees who passed their final examinations.

SCHOTTEL Delivers Propulsion for First Emission-Free Push Boat

The Elektra push boat ordered by BEHALA, Berlin harbor’s warehousing and logistics firm will be equipped with rudder propellers from Schottel. Ammonia, the same pungent solution used in fertilizers and cleaning agents, may one day be the key to transporting renewable energy around the world. There are currently a number of government and corporate projects assessing the feasibility of converting excess renewable energy from sources like wind, solar, tidal and nuclear into ammonia and then back into usable energy.In its purist form, ammonia or NH3 is composed of one nitrogen and three hydrogen atoms making it an ideal candidate to chemically bind excess renewable energy.
