Viking Strengthens Marine Evacuation Portfolio with Undertun Acquisition

Danish maritime safety solutions company Viking Life-Saving Equipment has acquired rights to manufacture and supply Undertun marine evacuation systems (MES).The Viking acquisition has been agreed with Sverre Undertun, whose Norway-based company offers solutions which include its well-known Undertun ship gangways.The solution is suitable for the small ferry market due to its easy installation and use.Catering for up to 150 persons, Undertun MES are especially convenient when installation heights and crew numbers are lowā€¦

Dutch shipbuilder Damen has delivered a virtual copy of the under-construction Combat Support Ship (CSS) Den Helder, to a branch of the Dutch Ministry of Defense, so the crews can get to know the ship even before it's been delivered to the Royal Netherlands Navy."The new Combat Support Ship (CSS) Den Helder has not yet been delivered, but the crew can already get to know the ship thanks to an extensive Virtual Reality package. Lifeboats Need to be Reinvented, Industry Group Says

A maritime industry safety group is calling for the total reinvention of lifeboats on board cargo vessels amid frequent injuries among seafarers.ā€œLifeboats are an essential part of crew safety onboard every vessel, but seafarers are way too often getting injured when launching the lifeboat,ā€ the Container Ship Safety Forum e.V. (CSSF) said. ā€œOver the years, many seafarers have been injured ā€“ some of them fatally ā€“ while launching the lifeboat during evacuations or evacuation drills.

Indian Register of Shipping (IRS) entered into a collaboration with Dassault Systèmes to leverage virtual twin technology for driving its digital transformation and boosting operational efficiency.The collaboration involves the use of Dassault Systèmesā€™ 3DEXPERIENCE platform to optimize the performance and efficiency of complex marine and offshore projects. Survitec's 'Life Ark' MES earns BV Type Approval

Survitec said its new Marine Evacuation System (MES) Life Ark -- a helical slide-based MES for small to medium-sized passenger vessels -- has received full-type approval from Bureau Veritas.Life Ark is designed for vessels with a freeboard height of up to 23m and passenger capacities ranging from 300 to 1,500. Japanese shipbuilder Mitsui E&S Shipbuilding (MES-S) has handed over a 66,000 dwt bulk carrier to Liberia-based Tomaros Navigation at its Tamano Shipyard.The newbuild is named M/V Tomaros."This is the 20th ship of our "neo66BC", the "wide beam shallow draft vessel" of our line-up "neo series"," said the shipbuilder.Featuring a length of 200 meters and a width of 36 meters, the 38,234 GT bulker flies the flag of the Bahamas.Tomaros has four cranes and five cargo holds, and keeps the superior usability of 56BC.The vessel is designed to have enough deadweight more than 66,000 metric tons and capacity more than 82,800 cubic meters for loading various cargos like coalā€¦

Building the Most Powerful Otto Cycle Engine in the World

WinGD has released a time-lapse video of the build of a 12X92DF engine, built by CSSC-MES Diesel Co., Ltd. (CMD) in Lingang, Shanghai.This twelve-cylinder version of the 92cm bore X-DF dual fuel engine from WinGD, is set to be the largest and most powerful Otto cycle gas and dual-fuel engine ever built and will bring a new level of environmental sustainability to the containership segment.The engine build has taken approximately 3,125 person days, which totals to 25,000-man hours. The engine weighs over 2,100 tons and has received parts from more than 15 countries.

MOL Tests Autonomous Ship Handling

Japanese shipping major MOL Group announced the completion of a demonstration test (from December 2018 to February 2019) using the TUMST training ship Shioji Maru for their proposed joint demonstration project related to the safety of vessels' auto berthing and un-berthing.The project, jointly run by Mitsui E&S Shipbuilding (MES-S), Mitsui O.S.K. MAN in Global Service Deal with Wallem

German solution provider to the marine and energy sectors, MAN Energy Solutions (MES) has signed a Global Key Account Management contract with Hong Kongbased Wallem Group.The contract covers the supply of spares and services to MAN main engines, generators and turbochargers aboard vessels managed by Wallem, the provider of technology-driven maritime solutions.According to a press release from Augsburg-based MES, the global agreement covers all offices of the Wallem Group and provides access to a dedicated global and local key account manager from MAN PrimeServ, MAN Energy Solutionsā€™ after-sales division.
