Tognum to showcase Mobile Rig Power Module powered by MTU series 1300 engine at Permian Basin International Oil Show (PBIOS) in Odessa, Texas. The Series 1300 offers the same legendary high standards of reliability and durability as its predecessor, the Series 60, with improved emissions technology and load performance. The Series 1300 offers a power range from 350-470 brake horsepower (bhp). The new Auxiliary Generator Package powered by the MTU 8V 1600 engine, designed to provide electrical power to drill rig operations. MTU’s new Backpack product, which is an optional, pre-engineered air filtration/cleaner and exhaust mounting system that provides original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) with greater ease of installation.
MTU Diesel Engines to Power Singapore’s New Naval Fleet
Tognum announced that its MTU Series 4000 diesel engines have been chosen by Singapore Technologies Marine Ltd. to power eight Littoral Mission Vessels for the Republic of Singapore Navy (RSN). The Littoral Mission Vessels will be installed with state of the art, high efficiency MTU 20V 4000 M93L diesel engines, known for their low consumption and long service life, with each unit producing 4300kW (5766bhp), Tognum said. MTU Series 4000 diesel engines offer unrivalled power density in terms of volume-to power ratio and power-to-weight ratio.
MTU Series 8000 Demonstrates Power
Since its introduction in 2000, MTU's Series 8000 high-speed diesel engine has gained popularity among Naval and Commercial shipbuilders because of its performance and operating availability. With over one hundred 20V 8000 engines sold, and with over 160,000 hours in combined operation, the world's highest power to weight ratio in this power range is said to be the low risk propulsion engine option for many navies and high-speed ferry operators. Delivering up to 12,200 bhp (9100 kW) of continuous power, MTU's Series 8000 has consistently set the performance benchmarks for fuel efficiency - less than 190g/kWh, while achieving IMO Marpol NOx emission certification. The 20V 8000 engine is now also available in a US EPA Tier II emission certified configuration.

MTU Series 2000 Yacht Engine Development
Tognum is to develop its MTU Series 2000 yacht engines to meet forthcoming exhaust gas emission regulations. Tognum is to develop its MTU Series 2000 yacht engines for compliance with US EPA Tier 3 Recreational and IMO Tier III emissions regulations. The new Series 2000 M96 engines will be able to cover outputs up to 2,600 bhp (1,940 kW), at the same time complying with IMO Tier II and EPA Tier 3 regulations using in-engine technology only. Compliance with IMO Tier III will be possible with SCR exhaust gas aftertreatment.
New MTU North America Training Courses
MTU North American Training Center announces arrival of new Series 8000 marine engine for maintenance & repair training. Tognum America has announced the arrival of an MTU Series 8000 marine engine at its 30,000 square-foot MTU Training Center in Canton, Mich. The Series 8000 is used in mega-yachts, commercial marine and defense applications. Measuring over 11 feet high, 21 feet long, and with dry weight of 46,200 kg (101,853 lbs), the Series 8000 is the largest and most powerful engine produced by MTU.
MTU, Navantia Ink Cooperation Agreement
MTU Friedrichshafen and the Spanish shipbuilder Navantia signed a strategic long-term cooperation agreement that extends the existing cooperation, enhancing the long-term relationship that both companies have had during the last 40 years. Navantia chooses the Tognum Group company MTU Friedrichshafen as a primary partner for its ships’ propulsion systems. In addition to the existing license agreements for the commercialization and manufacturing of MTU Series 396, Series 956 and Series 1163 marine engines a common training center is to be established.
GRSE to Build MTU Engines in India

Kvichak Marine Industries, of Seattle, WA, has recently been awarded a contract to build a 65’ passenger catamaran for the Chemehuevi Transit Authority of Lake Havasu, California. The vessel will operate as a ferry on Lake Havasu, with ports of call at Lake Havasu City on the Arizona side and at Havasu Landing on the California side. MTU to Showcase Engines at Commercial Marine Expo
The Tognum brand MTU will be showcasing the Series 2000 marine engine for new workboat installations at the Commercial Marine Expo, June 22-23, 2011 in booth #201. The Series 2000 is available in both 12V and 16V configurations, with power output that ranges from 805 bhp to 1,070 bhp (600 - 800 kW) at 1,800 RPM. In addition to the Series 2000, MTU will also be displaying the venerable Series 60 engine. With more than 650,000 units in operation around the globe, the MTU Series 60 engines have demonstrated both high reliability and durability. As the first engines in its power class the MTU Series 4000 was recently awarded Naval Vessel Rules (NVR) certification by the American Bureau of Shipping (ABS). MTU to Supply 16 Gensets for Rolls Royce Design OSV's
Tognum to supply 16 marine gensets with MTU Series 4000 engines as part of Rolls-Royce UT-OSV design for 4 new CDL OSV's. Tognum will deliver 16 MTU marine generator sets with 12V 4000 M23S Ironmen engines for four Rolls-Royce UT 771 CDL offshore supply vessels (OSV) to be built at COSCO (Zhoushan) Shipyard Co. Ltd. in China. The gensets are part of a £26 million Rolls-Royce order to provide an integrated design, power and propulsion and equipment package. COSCO will build the OSVs for a Hong Kong owner. The four vessels are scheduled for delivery in 2014.
MTU Powers Ice-Capable Research Vessel
MTU, a Rolls-Royce brand, was chosen to power the Sikuliaq, a U.S. academic research vessel tailor-made for oceanographic research. The Sikuliaq, one of the most advanced university research vessels in the world, is owned by the National Science Foundation (NSF) and operated by the University of Alaska Fairbanks as a part of the University-National Oceanographic Laboratory System’s academic research fleet. The Sikuliaq is powered by a total of four MTU Series 4000 Ironmen engines, two of which are MTU 16V 4000 M23S marine generator engines.

LCS2 “Light Off” Successful
Sea trials of the US Navy’s landmark Austal-designed and built 127-m Littoral Combat Ship “Independence” (LCS 2) are expected to commence within weeks following the successful light off of the vessel’s main engines. MTU to Build Engines in China
One year after the foundation was laid for the MTU Group’s new facility in the Chinese city of Suzhou, a ceremony marked the start of local assembly of MTU Series 2000 diesel engines. The facility is located in Suzhou Industrial Park (SIP) around 100 km north-west of Shanghai and the gensets assembled there, exclusively for the Chinese market, are earmarked for service in decentralized power generation plants. The MTU Group has been marketing engines in China for more than 40 years, and this latest project reflects the lively domestic demand for power generation units, several hundred of which will leave the gates of the MTU factory in Suzhou every year in future.

Second Superferry Launched
The second of two high speed vehicle-passenger catamarans for Hawaii Superferry has been launched at Austal USA. The achievement comes just months after Austal successfully launched the LCS Independence – a state-of-the-art near-shore combat ship built for the US Navy. With a service speed of 40 knots and the capacity to transport 866 passengers and 282 cars, the high speed catamaran joins sister vessel “Alakai” - which was delivered to Hawaii Superferry last year - as the largest aluminium catamaran ever built in the US.
