New Addition to DNV GL’s Veracity Platform
DNV GL will add a new third party software solution to Veracity, its open industry data platform, that is based on cleaned data collected from 80 000 oil and gas wells. AGR, the leading well design and drilling project management firm, has agreed to host its iQx software on the platform, which contains information that is vital to companies selecting locations of wells. Tech Talk: GHS Adds 'Seakeeping'
General HydroStatics is no longer just about hydrostatics, and will soon offer capabilities in the world of hydrodynamics with the introduction of a long awaited addition to the GHS product family: an optional seakeeping module. DNV GL announced it is creating a specialized Digital Solutions organization that will set out to capture the opportunities that lie in data sharing, advanced analytics, automation, and machine learning as well as addressing challenges related to data quality and security. Elisabeth Heggelund Tørstad will leave her post as CEO for DNV GL’s Oil & Gas business to head the new Digital Solutions business, which will consist of 1,000 digital experts. Moore Stephens says Shipping Must Improve Risk Management
Not enough companies in the shipping industry are following joined-up risk management procedures, according to international accountant and shipping adviser Moore Stephens. The second annual Moore Stephens Shipping Risk Survey revealed a fall, when compared to last year, in the overall level of satisfaction on the part of respondents that sound risk management had contributed to the success of their organisations. The involvement of senior management in managing risk at the highest level also declined against last year. Respondents to the survey rated the extent to which enterprise and business risk management is contributing to the success of their organisation at an average 6.6, on a scale of 1 (low) to 10 (high), compared to 6.9 last time.

But the international accountant and shipping adviser warns that companies that fail to embed effective risk management procedures into their daily activities are likely to pay a high price in today’s tightly regulated and highly competitive industry. The inaugural Moore Stephens Shipping Risk Survey, which will be updated annually, sought to gauge how effectively enterprise and business risks are being managed in the shipping industry, and to analyze how key risks are being handled by companies.
HydroComp Releases New NavCad Premium Edition
HydroComp is releasing a major upgrade for its NavCad software tool, the company announced today. NavCad has been used for resistance and propulsion prediction for nearly three decades, and a "Premium Edition" is now available for users wanting a greater level of analytical capability. New features include a scripting (macro) API. This includes an easy-to-use scripting language that provides batch processing capability.
