NYK Orders LPG Dual-Fuel Very Large LPG / NH3 Carrier

NYK ordered its fourth liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) dual-fuel very large LPG / liquefied ammonia gas (NH3) carrier (VLGC) from Kawasaki Heavy Industries Ltd. (KHI). The ship will be built at the KHI Sakaide Works shipyard and is set for delivery in 2025.Like the LPG dual-fuel very large LPG / NH3 carriers already ordered by NYK, the vessel will be equipped with separate cargo tanks designed to carry LPG and ammonia at the same time to flexibly respond to various trade patterns.In addition to the LPG dual-fuel engine, the ship will have a shaft generator that can generate electricity during the voyage by using the rotation of the shaft that connects the main engine to the propeller.

Huisman's Leg Encircling Crane for Another Cadeler Offshore WInd Vessel

Dutch crane specialist Huisman won a contract with China's COSCO Shipping (Qidong) Offshore Co., Ltd. for the design and construction of a Leg Encircling Crane (LEC).The crane, with a fully electrically driven system, will be installed on the $345 million F-class jack-up vessel recently ordered by the Danish offshore wind installation firm Cadeler. Strategic Marine's New Fast Crew Boat Can Carry 80 Passengers

Singapore's Strategic Marine has announced its latest offshore fast crew boat, a 38-meter extra fast crew transfer catamaran vessel (FCTV). "The new vessel has been designed in collaboration with One2Three naval architects in Sydney Australia, incorporating direct feedback from customers," Strategic Marine said.Greg Daniel, Technical Manager of Strategic Marine, said: “Our offshore customers are increasingly asking for faster transfers but still want to reduce their costs. Often helicopters are used but this is expensive and limited to small numbers (only about 10 crew at any one time).

NYK Takes Delivery of Plumeria Leader Car and Truck Carrier

Japanese shipping company NYK last week took delivery of the Plumeria Leader, an LNG-powered pure car and truck carrier (PCTC).The vessel, delivered on March 24, was built at the Shin Kurushima Dockyard of Shin Kurushima Toyohashi Shipbuilding Co. Ltd. This is NYK's second LNG-fueled car carrier following the delivery of the Sakura Leader."By vessel modification and the switch to LNG, Plumeria Leader will make the ship up to approximately 40% more energy efficient (by reducing CO2 emissions per unit of transport) compared to ships using conventional heavy oil-fired engines.

Rem Offshore Picks Kongsberg's Vessel Insight for Offshore Wind Fleet

Offshore vessel operator Rem Offshore has selected Vessel Insight from Kongsberg Digital to collect vital data from its three new offshore wind vessels, currently under construction.The first vessel will be completed at Green Yard Kleven in November, while the other two are under construction at Vard, with completion in 2023 and 2024, respectively.By installing the infrastructure service Vessel Insight, Rem Offshore will collect data from the vessels and enable the use of applications to optimize operations. Hyundai Mipo Delivers Dual-Fuel Methanol Carrier 'Capilano Sun'

South Korea's Hyundai Mipo Dockyard has delivered the dual-fuel methanol carrier Capilano Sun, Japanese Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, (MOL) has informed.MOL said that the vessel, which can run on either heavy oil or methanol fuel, would be chartered from Hisafuku Kisen K.K., and then, Canada-based Waterfront Shipping Company (WFS) will charter the vessel from MOL under a long-term contract.Including Capilano Sun, MOL operates 18 methanol carriers. It also operates four of the 13 methanol dual-fuel tankers in service around the world.Per MOL

Fincantieri Cuts First Steel for Princess Cruises New LNG-powered Ship

Italian shipbuilder Fincantieri has cut first steel for the first of two LNG-powered cruise ships being built for Princess Cruises, a Carnival Corporation brand.The steel cutting ceremony took place last week in San Giorgio di Nogaro (Udine) at Centro Servizi Navali, a company that specialized in logistics and production of sheet metal for the Fincantieri yards located in northeastern Italy. The ship will be built in the Monfalcone yard.At 175,000 gross tons the “Sphere” vessels will be the largest ships built so far in Italy.

Wärtsilä Thrusters for Chinese Offshore Wind Vessels

Finland's marine engine and equipment maker Wärtsilä said Friday it would deliver the steerable and tunnel thrusters for two new wind farm turbine installation vessels being built for the China Three Gorges Corporation (CTGC), a China state-owned power company. The ships will serve China’s expanding offshore wind power sector. The orders were placed by CSSC Huangpu Wenchong Shipbuilding Co, the yard building a 2000-ton wind turbine installation vessel (WTIV), and by China Merchants Heavy Industry (Jiangsu) Co, the yard building a 3000-ton heavy lift vessel.

Aker BioMarine's Krill Transportation Vessel Launched in China

China's shipbuilder CIMC Raffles has launched the Antarctic Provider, a vessel being built for Norway's krill harvesting company Aker BioMarine.The launching ceremony for the krill transport vessel built by CIMC Raffles Offshore Ltd. was held Thursday at CIMC Raffles Yantai base. South Korea's Daewoo Shipbuilding Marine & Engineering (DSME) has delivered a new LNG Carrier - the BW Pavilion Aranthera - to its owners BW LNG. The delivery took place on Friday, July 3, 2020.The BW Pavilion Aranthera is a 173,400 cubic meters carrier with the ME-GI dual-fuel two-stroke engine and full reliquefaction capabilities.The vessel is BW’s fifth newbuilding with ME-GI propulsion and re-liquefaction system, in a series of nine new builds on order from DSME yard. Bernhard Schulte Offshore Names New SOV

The new service operation vessel (SOV) of Bernhard Schulte, designed and built by Ulstein, will carry the name 'Windea Jules Verne' and work for GE Renewable Energy at the Merkur offshore wind project soon.The vessel received its name after one of the world’s most popular adventure writers, who was born in Nantes, France, where GE’s Offshore Wind business is located.The SOV has been designed and built by Ulstein for Bernhard Schulte Offshore. GE contracted Bernhard Schulte in July 2018 to provide an SOV for the 396MW project in Germany, after which the German company placed the order with Ulstein Verft.Ulstein began working on the SOV in September 2019.

Ulstein Retrofits HMC Vessel to HLV

The marine contractor in the international offshore oil and gas and renewables industry Heerema Marine Contractors (HMC) contracted Ulstein Verft shipyard in 2018 to provide design and engineering services to convert their deepwater construction vessel Aegir into a fast sailing heavy lift vessel (HLV).The vessel is now converted into a dedicated offshore heavy lift vessel. Aegir’s already massive 4,000-ton main crane and the fact that her hull design is based on Ulstein’s SOC 5000 heavy-lift vessel design, is a key benefit in this development."Nevertheless, innovative solutions and smart engineering work is needed to make the vessel into an efficient asset for the new markets that Heerema is targeting

HHI Projects a Revenue of $15.9Bn in 2020

South Korean shipbuilder Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI) Group, which includes the world's largest shipyard, aims for a revenue of USD 15.9 billion in 2020.Yonhap News Agency said the combined target of Hyundai Heavy Industries Co., Hyundai Samho Heavy Industries Co. and Hyundai Mipo Dockyard Co. remains unchanged from last year’s goal.HHI said it aims to bag $8 billion worth of deals in 2020, according to the report.Hyundai Mipo Dockyard said in a regulatory filing that it aims to clinch deals worth $3.65 billion this year.In 2019, Hyundai Mipo Dockyard won orders worth $2.7 billion, achieving 76 percent of its annual order target of $3.53 billion.Hyundai Samho Heavy Industries said it aims to secure orders worth $4.25 billion this year.

HHI Wins $293M Newbuild Order

South Korean shipbuilder Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI) Group said that its two affiliates have clinched two deals worth 340 billion won (US$293 million) in total to build six vessels.Hyundai Mipo Dockyard (HMD), a unit of HHI, has won a KRW 110 billion ($100m) newbuilding order for four units of 1,800 TEU container carriers from Taiwanese shipping line Evergreen Marine Corporation.The boxships will be built to the Con-Green design developed by HMD in conjunction with Man Energy Solutions and DNV GL in HMD’s Ulsan shipyard in phases starting 2021.In a separate deal, another affiliate, Hyundai Samho Heavy Industries Co., an affiliate of HHI

GasLog Secures $1B for Newbuilds

GasLog signed an Export Credit Agency-backed debt financing of $1.05 billion with 12 international banks for its current newbuilding program.The LNG carrier owner and operator has seven LNG carriers on order at South Korean shipyard Samsung Heavy Industries (SHI), five of which are for delivery in 2020 with two more due in 2021.The Newbuild Facility covers the balance due to the shipyard on delivery and consequently the final installments of the seven newbuildings are fully funded.Five of these seven newbuildings are scheduled to deliver from the yards into firm multi-year charters in 2020 and the remaining two into firm multi-year charters in 2021.The facility has a tenor of up to 12 years with an amortization profile of 18 years from vessel delivery.

ABS Awards AiP to SHI LNG Re-liquefaction System

ABS has announced that it has awarded approval in principle (AiP) to Samsung Heavy Industries (SHI) for its innovative X-Reli LNG Boil Off Gas Expander – part of SHI’s Expansion Re-Liquefaction System.According to the statement from the South Korean shipbuilder the X-Reli system is optimized for low and medium pressure application, which SHI says offers increased efficiency and reliability over existing high-pressure re-liquefaction systems.“Re-liquefaction is a useful capability for owners and operators, offering increased flexibility and the potential to maximize cargo delivery. Wärtsilä Systems for Spliethoff OSV

Finnish tech company Wärtsilä will supply equipment for two offshore support vessels (OSV)under construction at the Fujian Mawei Shipbuilding yard in China for Netherlands-based shipping company Spliethoff.The order with Wärtsilä is booked in November 2019, said a press note.The design of the two DP2-B-type ships combines the intake of a multi-purpose vessel with Dynamic Positioning station-keeping ability, thus making them ideal for supplying cargo to offshore installations. KHI Intros World's First Liquefied Hydrogen Carrier

The world’s first liquefied hydrogen carrier, built to ship large quantities cryogenically frozen H2 internationally, was launched by Japan's Kawasaki Heavy Industries (KHI) at it's Kobe Works yard.The Suiso Frontier (‘suiso’ means ‘hydrogen’ in Japanese) will play a key role in the Shell-backed HySTRA demonstration project (CO2-free Hydrogen Energy Supply-Chain Technology Research Association), which will see large quantities of H2 produced from brown coal in Australia and then shipped 9,000km to the city of Kobe in Japan.This vessel was developed to provide a means of transporting liquefied hydrogen at 1/800 of its original gas-state volume

AiP for 25000TEU LNG-Fueled Box Ship Design

The  international accredited registrar and classification society DNV GL awarded an Approval in Principle (AiP) certificate to Hudong-Zhonghua for its new gas-fueled 25000TEU Ultra Large Container vessel (ULCS) design.The AiP is for a design that would be the largest containership in the world.Knut Ørbeck-Nilssen, CEO DNV GL – Maritime, presented the certificate to Chen Jun, President of Hudong-Zhonghua, at the CSSC booth in Shanghai. The ceremony was witnessed by Chen Jianliang, Chairman of Hudong-Zhonghua, and Norbert Kray, Regional Manager of DNV GL – Maritime for Greater China.“We are very proud to cooperate with Hudong-Zhonghua on this project,” said Norbert Kray.“Hudong-Zhonghua has been a leading player in pushing the ship design envelop forward, especially for large vessels.
