Boston Harbor's MV Outward Bound has returned to Gladding-Hearn Shipbuilding, Duclos Corporation for a mid-life refit. Redelivery is planned for spring 2026. SCHOTTEL to Equip CMAL Electric Ferries

SCHOTTEL will supply rudder propellers for a new series of seven electric double-ended ferries by Scotland’s state-owned Caledonian Maritime Assets Limited (CMAL). The vessels will be constructed by the Polish shipyard Remontowa Shipbuilding S.A, with the first delivery scheduled for 2027. DMC to Deliver Equipment Packages for 14 MPVs at Indian Shipyards

Damen Marine Components (DMC) has secured contracts to supply rudders, steering gear and nozzles for 14 multi-purpose vessels (MPVs) under construction at two shipyards in India.The contracts cover eight 6,300 DWT MPVs being built by Udupi Cochin Shipyard for a Scandinavian customer, and six 7,500 DWT MPVs being built by Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders for Danish shipowner Navi Merchants.For the Udupi Cochin Shipyard vessels, DMC will deliver piston-type steering gear and Atlantic-type rudders tailored to the specific design.

Kongsberg Maritime to Supply Propellers for River Class Destroyers

Kongsberg Maritime has secured contracts with Irving Shipbuilding Inc., to supply twin fixed built propellers for the River Class Destroyers under construction for the Royal Canadian Navy.The contract is part of Canada’s National Shipbuilding Strategy to replace the existing Halifax-class ships.The contract covers propellers for the first batch of three ships, with deliveries starting in 2028, with the total program planned to be 15 ships with deliveries into the 2040s.Last year Kongsberg Maritime signed contracts with Irving Shipbuilding Inc.

Steering Micro Switch Failure Led to Houston Collision

A steering control system component failure on a multi-purpose carrier resulted in a collision with a bulk carrier in the Houston Ship Channel, the National Transportation Safety Board said in a newly-released investigation report.The multi-purpose carrier BBC Africa lost steering as it was departing the channel on Aug. 25, 2023, and struck the moored bulk carrier Common Faith. No injuries or pollution were reported. Damage to the vessels was estimated at $1.1 million.The crew told investigators they did not find any issues with the steering control systems during the pre-departure tests.
