Stolt-Nielsen Limited reported unaudited results for the first quarter ended February 28, 2013. Net profit attributable to SNL shareholders in the first quarter was $1.5 million, with revenue of $519.4 million, compared with $18.2 million, with revenue of $510.9 million, respectively, in the fourth quarter of 2012. The Stolt Tankers Joint Service Sailed-in Time-Charter Index was 1.12, down from 1.14.

IHC Merwede Reveals Healthy Profit Margin
IHC Merwede has revealed a healthy net profit margin of 4.1% in 2012 and a positive sales forecast for the year ahead. The company develops and builds vessels, equipment and life-cycle support services for the dredging, mining and offshore industries, which have been performing well – despite the global economic situation and the knock-on effect for the maritime industry. In 2012, IHC Merwede reached a revenue of €895 million and a net profit of €37 million.
MTU Expands in India with Engine Test Cell Facility
The Tognum Group company MTU India opened a new engine test cell facility at its MTU India Service Center in Tathawade, Pune (India). The test cell’s dynamometer system is capable of testing all MTU engines up to Series 4000 engines in the range from 300 to 4,300kW, as per MTU test protocol, and for all applications. As part of a US Navy-funded project Virginia Tech College of Engineering researchers have unveiled a life-like, autonomous robotic jellyfish. The jellyfish, the size and weight of a grown man, is 5 foot 7 inches in length and wieghs 170 pounds. The project aims to develop self-powering, autonomous machines that support various missions such as surveillance and monitoring the undersea environment, as well as studying ocean life, mapping ocean floors and monitoring ocean currents.

NOL Names Its Largest Container Ship
The 14,000-TEU container ship was named 'APL Temasek' by Mrs Mary Tan, wife of the Republic’s President at a Singapore ceremony. 'M/V Fairpartner' is due to discharge the largest tunnel boring machine (TBM) ever made at the port of Seattle, Friday, 5, April 2013. The tunnel boring machine was built by Hitachi Zosen Corporation and loaded at Osaka, Japan. It consists of total 48 pieces weighing 7,777 metric tons and measuring 31.606 cubic meters; the heaviest item is close to 900 metric tons.
