Loss of 'USS Thresher' Remembered 50 Years On
Family members & dignatories join in Portsmouth, Maine, to remember the loss on sea trials of the nuclear-powered attack submarine. On April 10, 1963, Thresher began post-overhaul trials following lengthy testing and throughout evaluation of her many new technological features and weapons after her commissioning in August 1961. USS Thresher was built at Portsmouth Naval Shipyard, Kittery, Maine, as the lead ship of a class of 3700-ton nuclear-powered attack submarines.

New Dutch Waterway Bunker Station
The Gorinchem Ferry Service & Damen Shipyards Group collaborate to install a modular pontoon with a jetty for the bunker station. “What started as a mooring pontoon with a small gas oil tank for the ferry service has expanded into a complete bunker station”, says Jeroen van Woerkum, Sales Manager Benelux. The work involved designing, building and installing a modular pontoon, jetty, together with supplementary activities for the bunker station along Buiten de Waterpoort in Gorinchem.
Latest Underwater GAPS Launched by iXBlue
iXBlue has launched the next generation of its underwater global acoustic positioning system (GAPS), designated GAPS-NG. The manufacturers say that GAPS-NG, like its predecessor GAPS, is a truly portable and precalibrated ultra-short baseline positioning system (USBL) that incorporates INS and GPS technologies. The system is designed to work in demanding environments, notably acoustically challenging and/or extremely shallow waters, where other systems commonly fall down.
