FRC International is running the first WBV Manager course in the U.S. on 18th June at HiPer Craft 2013 in Norfolk Va. Due to the continuing restrictions on Defense Department budgets, FRC International is offering reduced-rate registration for the WBV Manager course at HiPer Craft. Northrop Grumman Corporation was awarded a contract to support the U.S. Navy's integration onto an unmanned surface vehicle (USV) of the Northrop Grumman-built AQS-24A Side Look Sonar System to look for bottom and volume mines remotely. The repackaging of the sonar for USV use will build upon the capabilities of the AQS-24A. The AQS-24A and its predecessors, the AQS-24 and the AQS-14, all built by Northrop Grumman, are airborne minehunting search systems used by the Navy for the past 28 years.

ABS Enters Indian Wind Market
ABS Consulting completed its first noise emission test in India for SRC Green Power’s wind turbine in Tirunelveli, India, just southwest of the state capital, Chennai. The noise assessment of the 250 kW wind turbine generator (WTG) was conducted by the company’s IEC 61400-11 accredited subcontractor, WIND-Consult. The test took three days to complete and provided feedback on Noise Emission decibel levels at wind speeds ranging from 6 m/sec to 10 m/sec.
Okeanus Expands Winch Fleet with 6,000-m System
Okeanus Science and Technology, LLC (Okeanus) acquired a custom DT Marine 125-hp electric-hydraulic Slip-Ring Tow Winch, model DT-3125. The custom-designed winch is spooled with over 6,000 m (20,000 ft) of 0.68” UNOLS coax cable. The system is configured to support a wide variety of oceanographic, survey, and scientific equipment and is ideally suited for various deepwater tow sled operations. The winch’s bare drum line pull is over 20,000 lbs at 0 to 150 ft/min.

Wärtsilä X40 Engine Passes Type Approval Tests
Wärtsilä announced that its Wärtsilä X40 two-stroke engine has successfully passed its Type Approval Test (TAT). The testing was carried out in Zhuhai, China, at Wärtsilä's licensee Yuchai Marine Power Co. Ltd (YCMP). In passing the TAT, the engine is verified as having fulfilled all classification society requirements, and will be fully introduced to the market following its sea trials, which are now being undertaken.
