Cruise Ship Passenger Medevaced Off Atlantic City
The U.S. Coast Guard medevaced a 67-year-old woman Thursday from a cruise ship approximately 75 miles east of Atlantic City, New Jersey. A medical doctor aboard the cruise ship Norwegian Breakaway contacted Coast Guard watchstanders at 7:53 p.m. to report the woman was in need of immediate medical assistance. After consulting with the flight surgeon, the woman was recommended for medical evacuation.

Salvors Adjusting Hoegh Osaka’s Ballast System
Hoegh Osaka was held secure by tugs as winds in the Solent reached 60 knots last night, the U.K. Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA) reported. MCA said salvors are working to adjust the ballast system aboard the car carrier vessel and hope to begin pumping water from the car decks within the next 24 hours. Salvors hope good weather over the next few days will allow for a reduction of the vessel’s list. If weather permits, divers will perform a hull inspection today.
Fairmount Delivers Cargo Barge to Allseas
Large cargo barge Iron Lady 1 has been delivered to Allseas in Rotterdam by oceangoing tug Fairmount Alpine. Barge Iron Lady 1, which measures 200 meters long and 58 meters wide, was delivered after a voyage of 14,800 nautical miles at an average speed of 6.5 knots. Fairmount Alpine departed from Shanghai mid-August with Iron Lady 1 on tow and sailed via Cape of Good Hope to Rotterdam. During the voyage, bunkers were taken at Singapore, Mauritius and along the African coast.

A new 26-meter catamaran passenger ferry vessel, D6, has been delivered to Explore Group NZ, designed by Incat Crowther and built by Aluminium Marine in Queensland. The vessel’s construction began a spec build before being earmarked by the operator as a potential vessel for their Dolphin Discoveries operations. A close collaboration between designer and builder allowed the vessel’s design to be modified to suit Explore Group’s requirements with minimal impact to budget and schedule.
