Marine Industry Records Strong Growth in Dubai
While many sectors of the global maritime market recorded slowdowns in 2015, one area of the Middle East reports impressive growth figures. Dubai Maritime City Authority (DMCA), the government authority charged with regulating, coordinating and supervising all aspects of Dubai’s maritime sector, has announced the registration of 1,623 marine crafts (compared to 945 in 2014) and the issuance of 2,396 marine crew licenses (compared to 945 in 2014) to date.

USCG Repatriates 27 Migrants
Crewmembers aboard the Coast Guard Cutter Isaac Mayo repatriated 27 Cuban migrants to Bahia de Cabañas, Cuba, Saturday. This repatriation is a result of two separate migrant interdictions at sea, which both took place Friday, December 18, in the south Florida Straits. While on routine patrol, the Coast Guard Cutter Resolute located a rustic vessel with a motor, 45 miles nautical miles southwest of Key West, Fla., with 12 Cuban migrants aboard.

APM Terminals Gothenburg Welcomes Largest Box Ship
The MSC Maya, the fourth of 20 Oscar-Class Ultra-Large Container Ships (ULCS), arrived at APM Terminals Gothenburg on December 21 from the Port of Bremerhaven as part of the regular port rotation of the Maersk Line/Mediterranean Shipping Company AE-2/Swan Far East/North Europe Service in the 2M alliance. With a published capacity of 19,224 TEUs, Oscar-class vessels are the world’s current record holders in container carrying capacity.
