Polaris: World´s First LNG-Powered Icebreaker Delivered
Arctech Helsinki Shipyard delivered the most powerful newcomer in the Finnish Icebreaker fleet, icebreaker Polaris, to the Finnish Transport Agency on September 28th, 2016. The Finnish Transport Agency handed the vessel over to Arctia Icebreaking Oy. The prototype vessel built at Helsinki Shipyard is designed to serve for at least 50 years in icebreaking, oil recovery and sea rescue operations. Previous time an Finnish icebreaker with similar size range was completed in year 1994.
S. Korean Court Mulls Sale of Hanjin
The South Korean bankruptcy court handling the insolvency proceedings of Hanjin Shipping Co. said Wednesday a sale of the troubled company is possible, say media reports. However, the court has yet to reach a decision. "The sale of Hanjin is one of the options we're considering. If we conclude that it's the best way to rehabilitate the company, we'll do so, " Choi Ung-young, a judge and a spokesman for the Seoul Central District Court, said.

Singapore Exchange Ltd (SGX) sees the potential to develop new freight derivatives centred on active Asian shipping routes and expand the use of freight derivatives with its acquisition of London's Baltic Exchange, a senior SGX official told Reuters. "We believe there are a number of opportunities that the Baltic Exchange and SGX can realise together, including the creation and adoption of new benchmarks of Asian shipping routes," Michael Syn, head of derivatives at SGX told Reuters.

China's COSCO Shipping Co Ltd may consider buying the port assets of troubled South Korean firm Hanjin Shipping Co Ltd, Chinese online finance magazine Caixin reported on Wednesday.
