Maersk Considering New Toll System by Suez Canal Authority
AP Moller-Maersk's Maersk Line shipping arm said it is considering proposals from the Suez Canal Authority for a new toll system that could involve advance payments, reports Reuters. "They have proposd a new payment method and presented it to us, and we are looking at it now," a company spokesman said. The Wall Street Journal earlier quoted Canal Authority Chairman Mohab Mamish as saying it aimed to levy charges for three years or five years in advance.
Braemar Shipping Fighting The Waves
Braemar Shipping Services PLC reported a sharp decline in pretax profit for the first half of its financial year on Tuesday, hit by difficult conditions in a number of its key end markets, reports Alliance News. In August, Braemar warned its results for the year to the end of February 2017 will be "materially lower" than the prior year, with softer activity levels and freight rates amid a "marked slowdown" in the tanker segment dragging on its shipbroking revenue.
Screw Compressors for Dual-fuel LNG Carrier
Kobe Steel, Ltd. said it has received an order to supply the first two screw compressors for use with marine dual fuel engines. The compressors will be installed in an LNG carrier to be owned by a 50/50 joint venture between Mitsui O.S.K. Lines Co., Ltd. (or MOL) and Itochu Corporation for Uniper Global Commodities SE, a subsidiary of Uniper SE, Europe’s one of largest power and gas companies. Uniper Global Commodities will charter the new carrier for 20 years.
Incat Crowther Designed Ferry for Seychelles
Incat Crowther has designed a new catamaran ferry for Cat Cocos of the Seychelles. To be built by Richardson Devine Marine, the 292-passenger, 30m vessel will capitalize on the experience of the operation of the Incat Crowther-designed Isle of Praslin (delivered 2006) and Isle of La Digue (delivered 2009). These vessels have proven to be reliable, robust and efficient through years of operation, and the new vessel is designed to take those characteristics a step further.
INS Viraat on its last Journey
The INS Viraat is on the last journey and the ship is being towed back by three tugs to Mumbai for the decommissioning. SCI Mukta, an Anchor Handling & Towing Vessel (AHTS) of the National Flagship Carrier i.e. The Shipping Corporation of India Ltd., has commenced towing the aircraft carrier; INS Viraat at 0700 hrs on 23rd October 2016 from Cochin to Mumbai. It will be decommissioned at Mumbai and its expected date of arrival at Mumbai on 29th October 2016.

The Japan Patent Office has granted a patent to Eco Marine Power (EMP) for its innovative EnergySail technology, an advanced rigid sail device that can be fitted with a range of renewable energy technologies such as solar panels or wind power devices.
