Grupo TMM Orders Damen ASD Tug 3212
Leading Mexican maritime operator, Grupo TMM, has signed a Protocol of Delivery and Acceptance with Damen Shipyards Group for a 70 tonne bollard pull ASD Tug 3212 named TMM COLIMA. The tug will operate in the Mexican port of Manzanillo on the Pacific Coast. Ongoing port modifications and changes in port authority requirements were the driving force behind the deal. Founded in 1958, Grupo TMM has become one of the largest integrated logistics and transportation companies in Mexico.
FORAN Design Wins Korean Universities' First Prize
Hae-Jun Ji and his team of other sophomores and juniors at the Naval Architecture and Ocean Systems Engineering department of the Busan-based Korea Maritime and Ocean University (KMOU) won the first prize in the 25th National Ship Design Contest for University Students organized by the Society of Naval Architects of Korea (SNAK). The award ceremony was held within SNAK’s 2016 General Meeting & Annual Autumn Conference on 3 November in Changwon.
Jotun:ISO 19030 standard can make $30 bln impact on the industry
The International Organization for Standardization (ISO) has now published the long-awaited ISO 19030, a new standard conceived to measure changes in ship-specific hull and propeller performance. According to Jotun, which has led the industry in the standard’s development, the move has the potential to reduce the industry’s green house gas emissions by 10%, while saving operators up to USD 30 billion in annual energy costs. ISO 19030 has been more than three years in the making.
Tersan Shipyard Orders Deck Equipment
PALFINGER MARINE and Harding Safety recently signed a contract to provide lifesaving equipment and cranes for two fishing vessels being built in Tersan Shipyard. Each vessel will be equipped with two PALFINGER MARINE knuckle boom cranes, one A-frame fast rescue boat davit, and one fast rescue boat. Harding Safety, which was acquired by PALFINGER in June of this year, will be supplying the fast rescue boats. This contract represents the first results of the Joining Forces strategy.
Boskalis wins SponsorRing Award
Royal Boskalis Westminster N.V. (Boskalis) was last night named winner of the SponsorRing 2016 award in the 'Society' category for its sponsorship of The Ocean Cleanup's North Sea prototype test. A floating barrier designed to capture plastic from the sea is being tested approximately 23 km off the Dutch coast. The purpose of the test is to see how well the floating barrier design is able to cope with extreme weather conditions at sea.
