A Joint Venture comprising The Shipping Corporation of India Ltd. (SCI), Nippon Yusen Kabushiki Kaisha (NYK), Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, Ltd. (MOL), Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha, Ltd. (“K” Line), and Petronet LNG Ltd (PLL), have taken delivery of a new build Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) carrier MT “PRACHI” having a capacity of 173,000 m3, from Hyundai Heavy Industries Co. Ltd. South Korea on 30th November, 2016.
Brazil's EDPI Ship Repair Yard Project gets Funding Approval
At the 33rd ordinary meeting on Thursday, 1 December, the Board of Directors of the Merchant Marine Fund (CDFMM), at the Ministry of Transport, Ports and Civil Aviation in Brasilia (DF), approved to finance basis 2.15 billion reais for the construction of a new ship repair facility in Brazil as part of a 9.15 billion reais program for new and existing projects. DIANA, Charter Contract with Koch for Newbuilding
Diana Shipping Inc. today announced that, through a separate wholly-owned subsidiary, it has entered into a time charter contract with Koch Shipping Pte. Ltd., Singapore, for one of its Newcastlemax dry bulk vessels, “Hull No. H2548” (to be named “San Francisco”), which is currently under construction. The gross charter rate is US$11,750 per day, minus a 5% commission paid to third parties, for a period of minimum twelve (12) months to about sixteen (16) months.
Transocean Closes Acquisition of Transocean Partners
Transocean Ltd. announced the closing of the acquisition of Transocean Partners. Each outstanding public common unit of Transocean Partners was converted into the right to receive 1.20 shares of Transocean Ltd., which issued approximately 23.8 million shares related to the transaction. In connection with the closing, Transocean Partners' common units were delisted from the New York Stock Exchange.
USCG Repatriates 63 Cuban Migrants
The Coast Guard repatriated 63 Cuban migrants to Bahia de Cabañas, Cuba, since Dec. The Coast Guard Cutter Paul Clark crew repatriated six Cuban migrants Monday and another 57 Cuban migrants Friday. These repatriations are a result of five separate at-sea migrant interdictions in the South Florida Straits. In each instance, the Coast Guard helped secure the U.S. border and prevented these sea voyages from ending in tragedy.
HHI Receives $650 mln Order from Iran for 10 ships
South Korean shipbuilder Hyundai Heavy Industries Co Ltd received a $650 million order to build 10 ships for Iran's state-owned shipping company, South Korea's Yonhap News Agency reported on Saturday, citing a Hyundai Heavy spokesman. The company will build container ships and tankers for Islamic Republic of Iran Shipping Lines, with delivery starting in 2018, Yonhap cited the spokesman as saying. The number of each type of ship was not disclosed.
WCI Praises Passage of Water Infrastructure Improvement for Nation
Waterways Council, Inc. (WCI) today commended the work of Congress to pass the Water Infrastructure Improvements for the Nation (WIIN) Act, of which the Water Resources Development Act (WRDA 2016) is included, by a vote of 78 to 21 during the lame duck session.
