Staten Island Ferry Safety Statistics Released
The U.S. Coast Guard (USCG) sets the standards passenger vessels, such as the Staten Island Ferry, must meet and then inspects the vessels regularly to ensure that they are in compliance. For large passenger vessels, the Coast Guard conducts four safety inspections each year. These inspections, at a minimum, include examination of the vessel structure, lifesaving equipment, machinery installation, navigation equipment, personnel, and vessel security.
Golden Energy Offshore Selects Ulstein PSVs
Golden Energy Offshore has entered into a shipbuilding contract with Nantong Rainbow Offshore & Engineering Equipments Co., Ltd. (ROC) in China for the construction of two Platform Supply Vessels (PSVs) of the PX121H design from Ulstein, with the option to build two more vessels of the same design. The two confirmed vessels are due for delivery from yard in Q1 and Q2 of 2016. The vessels of the PX121H design are customized with an extra deck.

Birkenhead based engineering firm IPS Marine Fabrications has completed a series of contracts for three ship operators. IPS director Paul Smith said the contracts with Whitaker Tankers, and ferry operators Seatruck and Stena showcased the broad range of fabrication and insulation skills IPS can provide. “The job spec of these contracts was really varied and shows how we can save customers time and money,” he said.

A classroom of NAUTIS Desktop Trainers and a NAUTIS Instructor Station was purchased by the International Maritime College Oman (IMCO). The simulators allow the IMCO to add certified ECDIS Model course 1.27 training to its curriculum. The classroom was delivered and installed by VSTEP engineers at the IMCO premises in Sohar, Oman. IMCO purchased twelve NAUTIS Desktop trainer units and a NAUTIS Instructor Station to provide the complete range of ECDIS Model Course training for its students.
