ARI Deliver India Offshore Vessel Bridge Simulators
ARI Simulation has delivered a complete suite of integrated offshore simulators to the NUSI Offshore Training Institute (NOTI) in Mumbai, India. The NOTI facility has been created by the National Union of Seafarers of India (NUSI) to support competence development in offshore shipping among its members, promoting best practice as they progress up the chain of command in this vital, fast-growing sector. Basking Sharks Add Weight to Offshore Project Cancellation
Plans for a £5.4-billion offshore wind farm off the coast of Tiree in the Inner Hebrides have been dropped, partly because of the presence of basking sharks in the area, reports BBC News. The project, if continued, would have had up to 300 turbines and a capacity of up to 1800MW, enough to power one million homes. Scottish Power Renewables (SPR) cited construction issues and a significant presence of basking sharks in the area for its decision.

Fishing Vessel Disabled off Montauk
The U.S. Coast Guard is responding to a disabled vessel approximately 86 miles south east of Montauk, N.Y., today. Coast Guard Sector Long Island Sound communication watchstanders, in New Haven, Conn., received notification from a good samaritan vessel relaying communications for the disabled vessel Endorphin, a 58-foot commercial fishing homeported in Montauk, N.Y., that the disabled vessel reported they were adrift and without power, nearly 86 miles offshore with three crewmembers aboard.

Vessel Optimization Data Combines Ocean/Tidal Currents
A vessel optimization application offering combined tidal and non-tidal (ocean) current data has been launched for integrated vessel speed and route optimization. Developed by oceanographic data specialist Tidetech, the new application offers resolution of six nautical miles (0.1 degree) at 60-minute intervals in a six-day forecast. Significant passage time savings have been demonstrated in simulations.
