US Navy Deploys M/V Cape Ray
The U.S. Department of Defense announced the deployment of M/V Cape Ray from Portsmouth, Va., Jan. 27. M/V Cape Ray is the primary contribution of the Department of Defense toward international efforts to eliminate Syria's chemical weapons material program. Over the last several months, hundreds of government and contract personnel have worked tirelessly to prepare the vessel to neutralize Syrian chemical materials and precursors using proven hydrolysis technology.
DNV GL Reports on the Future of Fuels
DNV GL has released a position paper on the future alternative fuel mix for global shipping. While LNG is expected to be an early success, the picture becomes more diversified with time, as more than 20 percent of shipping could adopt hybrid propulsion solutions, featuring batteries or other energy storage technologies. The main drivers for the use of alternative fuels are the desire to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and the need to meet upcoming air pollution requirements.

Cameroon Navy Takes Two Patrol Boats
The Cameroonian Navy (CN) has taken delivery of two new 24m ARESA 2400 CPV Defender and one new 23m ARESA 2300 LD Craft to patrol and secure it’s coast. Cameroon’s Chief of Naval Staff, Rear Admiral Jean Mendoua, commissioned the 23m Aresa 2300 landing craft and two 24m Aresa 2400 CPV Defender patrol boats at the Cameroon Navy Base in Douala on November 21. The commissioning also included a presentation meeting as well as a tour of the boats while moored at the Naval Base.
Bravante’s New PSV is First of Five
Eastern Shipbuilding delivered M/V Bravante V (Hull 155) Boldini S.A., Bravante Group of Brazil. Bravante V is the first STX SV290 design of five vessels in a series which are all ABS, SOLAS, DPS-2, AC Diesel-Electric powered, twin Z-drive propelled PSV’s measuring 284 ft. (86.5m) x 60 ft. (18.3m) x 24.5 ft. (7.5m). The vessels all feature four Cummins QSK-60DM 16-cylinder turbo-charged IMO Tier II diesel generator engines each rated at 1825 kW at 1,800 rpm.

The Tungsten Explorer is an ultra deepwater, dynamically positioned mobile offshore drilling unit (Drillship). The primary areas of activities of the Drillship shall be in the Gulf of Mexico, West Africa and Brazil.
