The Port of Los Angeles contract Ports America to provide operation, management & maintenance of the Port of Los Angeles Cruise Terminal at Berth 90-43 in San Pedro, Calif. The five-year agreement, commencing April 2013, includes two 5-year options. Among the services that Ports America will provide are cruise terminal management, maintenance and repairs, security, special event management and the collection of dockage, wharfage and terminal fees.

Delaware's Vessel Management Services, Inc. has sold their twin-screw tug “Sinuk” to King River LLC of Palmer, Alaska. The 85.8’ x 28.5’ x 10.0’ depth, model bow tug was built in 1995 by J. Ray McDermott Shipyard in Morgan City, Louisiana. The tug, along with her sister “Siku”, were designed for coastwise towing and lightering of deck cargo / petroleum barges supplying the numerous remote sites and villages in southwestern and western Alaska.

Great Lakes Shipyard Contracted for USCG Cutter Repairs
Great Lakes Shipyard hauled out the United States Coast Guard Cutter Neah Bay (WTGB-105) using its 770-ton capacity Travelift. The repair contract, awarded to the Shipyard in early March, includes routine drydocking and underwater hull maintenance such as inspection and testing of propulsion systems; overhaul of sea valves and shaft seal assemblies; and other various cleaning, inspections, and repairs.
MARAD Deputy Matsuda Resigns
David Matsuda, the U.S. Maritime Administrator, announced that he is stepping down. In a statement released by Marad spokesperson Kim Strong, Matsuda's career highlights and accomplishments were also listed. "Matsuda, who previously worked as the primary transportation counsel to Sen. Frank Lautenberg, was responsible for overseeing more than $1 billion in federal assistance to modernize over 100 of America's small shipyards, upgrade 25 U.S. ports, and build new vessels in the U.S.

Safebridge, the Internet-based simulation training specialist, released its E-learning courseware for training and certification on the new ECDISPILOT Basic and Platinum models.
