GTT to Design LNG Tanks for CMA CGM's New Containerships

Engineering firm GTT said it has been chosen to design the cryogenic fuel tanks of 12 new liquefied natural gas (LNG) fueled containerships for the CMA CGM group.The vessels have been ordered from Chinese shipyards Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding (Group) Co. Ltd. and Jiangnan Shipyard (Group) Co., who will each build six vessels, able to carry 13,000 and 15,000 containers respectively. CMA CGM Orders 22 New Vessels from CSSC

French container shipping company the CMA CGM Group announced on Friday it has ordered 22 vessels from Chinese shipyard CSSC Group expected to be delivered in 2023 and 2024. The value of the order was not disclosed.The shipbuilding contract, which comes amid strong market growth in the container shipping sector, includes 12 ships powered by liquefied natural gas (LNG) and 10 to run on very low sulfur fuel oil (VLSFO), CMA CGM said. Six of the LNG-fueled box ships will be 13,000 TEU capacity, and the other six will be 15,000 TEU.

'Largest-ever' LNG Bunkering Operation Completed in Rotterdam

The world’s largest LNG-powered containership, the CMA CGM Jacques Saadé, has completed its first LNG bunkering with Total’s LNG bunker vessel, the Gas Agility, at the Port of Rotterdam in the Netherlands. The 23,000 TEU containership received around 17,300 m3 of LNG, making it the largest LNG bunkering operation to ever take place, both Total and CMA CGM said Monday.The bunkering operation was performed by the Gas Agility at the Rotterdam World Gateway terminal by means of a ship-to-ship transfer, while the CMA CGM Jacques Saadé carried out cargo operations simultaneously.

Dunkirk Port Switches on Cold Ironing
