French engineering firm GTT said it has obtained an approval in principle (AIP) from Bureau Veritas (BV) for the design of a liquefied natural gas (LNG) dual-fuel very large crude carrier (VLCC). This approval is part of a joint development project (JDP), started in May 2022, and carried out by Shanghai Waigaiqiao Shipyard (SWS) and BV.The SWS-designed vessel features optimized hull lines and is equipped with GTT’s high-tech system for LNG cargo containment, enabling safe and flexible carbon-neutral shipping.

GasLog , an international owner, operator and manager of liquefied natural gas (LNG) carriers, has announces that it has ordered a newbuild 180,000 cubic meter vessel with XDF propulsion from Samsung Heavy Industries (SHI) that is scheduled to deliver in the third quarter of 2019. This vessel is currently unchartered but its early delivery means that it is expected to deliver into a strong LNG shipping market. WesPac Midstream LLC (WesPac) and its affiliate Clean Marine Energy LLC (CME), announced a construction contract with Conrad Orange Shipyard, Inc., a division of Conrad Shipyard, LLC, to build the first dedicated LNG bunker barge for the marine market in North America. The first 2,200 cu. m. (cbm) barge is expected to be delivered in early 2016 and planned to initially be deployed in Tacoma, Wash., to service shipowner Totem Ocean Trailer Express’s Orca class RoRo vessels, in addition to other LNG-powered vessels.
Conrad Shipyard Bags LNG Order
Energy infrastructure and LNG solutions provider WesPac Midstream and its subsidiary Clean Marine Energy (CME) have awarded a contract to Conrad Orange Shipyard for the construction of a dedicated LNG bunker barge for the marine market in North America. The bunker barge, which is scheduled to be delivered in early 2016, will service ship owner Totem Ocean’s Orca Class roro vessel in Tacoma, Washington. The barge is then expected to head to Jacksonville, Florida to serve new build marlin class container vessels and other LNG-powered vessels in the Port of Jacksonville. The vessel is part of WesPac's and its affiliate, Clean Marine Energy’s strategy to provide integrated LNG solutions for engine conversion, infrastructure, supply and delivery logistics to the shipping industry.

The new Canadian Standard for LNG Production, Storage and Handling now includes and recognizes the membrane tank system as a possible technology for the land storage of LNG in Canada, reported Gaztransport & Technigaz (GTT), a designer of membrane containment systems for the maritime transportation and LNG. The membrane containment system technology has been integrated into the newly published Canadian Standard CSA Z276 2015 edition. This request initiated originally from the LNG community to meet the challenges of LNG export projects in remote locations. NASSCO Licenses LNG Containment Tech to Braemar
General Dynamics NASSCO and Braemar LNG BV, a wholly owned subsidiary of Braemar Shipping Services PLC, have signed a technology licensing agreement for Braemar to use NASSCO’s intellectual property in its design and construction of Flat-Panel, Semi-Membrane, Prismatic-Shaped (FSP) LNG containment systems. FSP is a new multipurpose Type B flat-panel, semi-membrane, prismatic-shaped LNG tank-containment system which uses flat plate technology and a universal joint configuration.

Lloyd's Register report looks at the commercial landscape, regulatory issues and technical realities of a new trade in ethane emerging as a result of increased U.S. U.S. ethane production capability, as a byproduct of total increased U.S. gas production, is underutilized. The potential exists for annual exports of 1 million metric tons of ethane to provide employment for 0.18 million cubic meters of shipping capacity if shipped to North Europe, a further 0.32 Mn Cu M if shipped to South Asia and a similar amount to China through the Panama Canal.
