Thad Allen Joins HudsonAnalytix

Admiral Thad Allen, U.S. Coast Guard retired

HudsonAnalytix, announced that Admiral Thad Allen, U.S. Coast Guard retired, has joined their operation as a Senior Executive Advisor.Admiral Allen served as the 23rd Commandant of the Coast Guard from 2006 to 2010. He will be focusing on risk management for the global maritime transportation sector served by Hudson. Focus areas include regulatory and policy issues, crisis response and disaster management, environmental compliance, and cyber risk to shipping, ports, and supply chains.

Vice Adm. Richard Hunt to lead SNA

Retired Vice Adm. Richard Hunt will assume the position of president of the Surface Navy Association (SNA) at the association’s annual symposium in January. Hunt succeeds retired Vice Adm. Barry McCullough, who has been president since 2013.Hunt is a graduate of the University of Wisconsin-Madison and was commissioned in February 1976 through the Officer Candidate School program in Newport, R.I. He attended Naval Post Graduate School, receiving a Master of Science in Telecommunications Systems Management in March 1988.He has served in USS Sampson (DDG 10), USS Underwood (FFG 36) and USS Roark (FF 1053), and has commanded USS Crommelin (FFG 37) and USS Philippine Sea (CG 58).

Ardmore Shipping Appoints Curtis McWilliams as Chairman

The US-based chemical tanker company  Ardmore Shipping Corporation announced that Reginald L. Jones is stepping down as Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Company effective December 31, 2018. Curtis McWilliams has been appointed as Chairman of the Board effective January 1, 2019, said a stock exchange announcement from the company.Jones will remain as a director until the Company's annual general meeting in 2019, when he does not intend to stand for re-election. Lines (MOL) has announced the completion of this year's Project Based Learning (PBL) program at the University of Tokyo Graduate Program for Mechanical Systems Innovation (GMSI), Research and Education Consortium for Innovation of Advanced Integrated Science (CIAiS) and Global Leader Program for Social Design and Management (GSDM). Coast Guard Foundation Names NE Regional Director

The Coast Guard Foundation, a non-profit organization committed to the education and welfare of all Coast Guard members and their families, has announced  that Loralyn Cropper joined its staff as regional director for the Northeast. In her role, Cropper will work closely with Coast Guard units in the area to identify and fulfill education, morale and family support needs for Coast Guard members. She replaces Susan Ludwig in this position, who was recently named president of the Coast Guard Foundation.

Obituary: Stewart B. Nelson

Stewart B. Nelson, Ph.D. - B. June 9, 1937 D. Dr. Stewart B. Nelson URI -MMA 1974, oceanographer, explorer, author, lecturer and marine historian passed away of complications related to cancer on September 12, 2016 in Tampa, Fla. He is mourned by family, friends and classmates of the Marine Affairs Program at the University of Rhode Island. Dr. Nelson's multifaceted career was principally spent in service to his country in his position as aide to the Office of the Oceanographer of the Navy and in this capacity he was the Senior Advisor to the to the Oceanographer, a Rear Admiral Flag position. Dr. Nelson who later earned a Ph.D, from the University of Southern California, was a pivotal figure in the modern era of the Naval Oceanographic Office.

The National Ocean Industries Association (NOIA) Board of Directors has elected Kevin McEvoy as Chairman and Dave Welch as Vice Chairman for the upcoming 2016-2017 term. McEvoy and Welch assumed their positions at the NOIA Annual Meeting today in Washington, D.C. Crowley Scholarships Aid Four UW Students

Crowley Maritime Corporation recently awarded Thomas B. Crowley Sr. Memorial Scholarships to four seniors studying at the University of Washington’s (UW) Michael G. Foster School of Business. The students, Joshua Banks, Kainen Bell, Maninder Grewal and Xuan Liao, were each chosen to receive a $2,500 scholarship for the 2015-2016 academic year based on their demonstrated financial need, community involvement and leadership skills. Joshua Banks, a two-time Crowley scholarship recipient is currently studying finance and entrepreneurship at UW.

Busan Port Names Woo Ye-jong as New CEO

The Busan Port Authority (BPA) announced Woo Ye-jong has been named as its new CEO, as appointed by the Korean Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries. Woo took office on July 31, 2015 and will serve for a three year term. He succeeds Lim Ki-tack who will take over as Secretary General at the International Maritime Organization (IMO) in January 2016. On taking his new role, Woo said, “My focus as CEO will be on strengthening the port’s competiveness by improving efficiency and keeping control of costs. Woo is keen to work closely with the port’s terminal operators and to reflect their ideas and opinions in BPA’s future strategy. BPA said it will also help relieve some of the burden currently facing its terminal operators, particularly issues that have the potential to result in job losses.

Matson, Inc. has promoted Kenny Gill to the position of Vice President, Alaska. In his new role, Gill has management responsibility for all Matson operations in Alaska, including terminal operations, customer service, sales and financial performance of the company's terminals in Anchorage, Kodiak and Dutch Harbor. Ki-tack Lim Elected as IMO Secretary General

Ki-tack Lim from the Republic of Korea has been elected as the new Secretary General of the International Maritime Organization (IMO), with effect from January 1, 2016, for an initial term of four years, the IMO announced. The current president of Busan Port Authority, Lim has served as the Republic of Korea’s Deputy Permanent Representative to IMO from 2006 to 2009 and was Chairman of the Sub-Committee on Flag State Implementation (FSI) from 2002 to 2004. Lim majored in nautical science at the Korea Maritime and Ocean University (KMOU), Busan, graduating in 1977.

Aker Philadelphia Shipyard ASA has appointed Jan Ivar Nielsen as Chief Financial Officer effective September 2015. Since 2009, Nielsen has held the position of CFO of VARD Holdings, a publicly listed global designer and builder of offshore and specialized vessels with 10 facilities across Europe, Asia and South America. From the period 2002 to 2005, Nielsen was CFO of the shipyard in Philadelphia. In 2005, Nielsen was involved in the formation of Aker American Shipping Company, the former parent of both Aker Philadelphia Shipyard and American Shipping Company.

PG Industries today announced executive appointments effective June 1. Vince Morales, currently vice president, investor relations, will become vice president, investor relations, and treasurer. Morales will report to Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer Frank Sklarsky. Since joining PPG in 1985, Morales has advanced through various finance leadership roles of increasing responsibility. He was appointed to his current position in 2007. Morales earned a Bachelor of Science from Robert Morris University and an MBA from The Ohio State University.

Huntington Ingalls Industries (HII) announced that William Ebbs has taken on the new role of vice president, federal policy, and Andrew Hicks has been promoted to vice president, legislative affairs. Both will report to Mitchell B. Waldman, corporate vice president, government and customer relations.
