Malte Willer to Lead E&S Tankers

Malte Willer has been appointed as the successor Jan Eghøj as head of European short-sea shipping company E&S Tankers, the company announced.The handover process will be completed by mid-August when Eghoej will leave the company and Willer will take over as managing director. Sulphur, La. based marine transportation company Southern Devall announced it has appointed Andrey Verloka as its new director of cargo stewardship and fleet allocation.“In his new role, Andrey will be instrumental in ensuring that our cargo operations are executed flawlessly according to customer instructions whileminimizing risks to both cargo and equipment,” said Alfred Devall, executive vice president, commercial operations.Verloka will also be responsible for the strategic allocation of assets, based on specific cargo and voyage requirements.

Partners Aim to Reduce Time Ships Spend in Port

A group of industry partners has teamed up in the U.S. to reduce the time ships spend in port. Initial results have seen port time reduce by an average of almost two hours and an increase in the efficiency with which cargo is transferred to customers.Stolt Tankers, Dow Inc., SGS and Vopak IIA Freeport (a joint venture between Vopak and BlackRock) formed the ‘Time alongside optimization project’ to improve supply chain collaboration and efficiency and reduce the time that ships are berthed at a terminal.

Lucas Vos is stepping down as President, Stolt Tankers effective July 1, 2024. He will be replaced by Maren Schroeder as President and Chief Operating Officer, while Bjarke Nissen will assume the role of Chief Commercial Officer at Stolt Tankers.Ms. Schroeder has held the position of Managing Director, Shipowning, at Stolt Tankers since 2022, and prior to joining as Fleet Director in 2019, was Head of Technical at Vroon B.V. She has also held fleet management positions with Exmar, Euronav and Germanischer Lloyd.

NYK Stolt Tankers Orders Six Chemical Tankers

NYK Stolt Tankers, a joint venture between NYK Line and Stolt Tankers, has placed an order with Nantong Xiangyu Shipyard in China to build six 38,000 deadweight tonne stainless steel chemical tankers for delivery between late 2026 and 2029.The newbuilds will be sisters to a series of six vessels Stolt Tankers ordered at Wuhu Shipyard in November. The ships feature 30 cargo tanks, offering a range of cargo flexibility and are designed to maximize fuel efficiency using a wide range of energy savings devices and shore power connection, Stolt Tankers said.

Swire Bulk announced it is voluntarily rerouting its vessels off southern Sri Lanka to avoid whale strikes in one of the world's busiest shipping lanes.The move comes after researchers identified ship strikes as the leading cause of death for whales in the area, a feeding ground for many cetaceans.Swire Bulk, part of the Swire Group, said its vessels will now pass at least 15 nautical miles south of Dondra Head traffic separation scheme and avoid sailing through marked out as “no go areas”.
