Foss Ships Utility Trucks to Puerto Rico
At the Port of Virginia in Norfolk and the Port of Lake Charles in Louisiana, Foss Maritime is loading hundreds of utility trucks onto barges bound for Puerto Rico this week. It’s all part of the on-going effort to restore power to nearly half of the population who are without electricity. Last Friday, Ricardo Rosselló, governor of Puerto Rico, announced that 1.5 million Puerto Ricans are still without power 100 days after Hurricane Maria hit Sept. 20.
Korea to be Shipbuilding Leader Again: President
President Moon was visiting Daewoo Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering`s Okpo Shipyard in Geoje, Gyeongsangnam-do Province, to inspect the shipbuilding yard of an icebreaker arctic liquefied natural gas (LNG) tanker. “The government will protect and bring up your hope,” he said. The icebreaker LNG carrier the president inspected is equipped with state-of-the-art technology that`s specialized in polar regions.
CMES Fleet Adds Bulk Carriers
The delivery and naming ceremony of PACIFIC MERIT, an energy-saving and environment-friendly bulk carrier with 64 thousand DWT, tailor-made by China Merchants Energy Shipping (CMES), was held in Chengxi Shipyard on 4 January 2018. Capt. Zhao Yaoming, Vice President of CMES and President of Hong Kong Ming Wah Shipping, and Lu Ziyou, the President of Chengxi Shipyard, attended and witnessed the ceremony.
Palumbo Buys Mondomarine
Italian yard Palumbo Group has acquired the former Mondomarine facility in Savona on an initial six-month lease, reports local media. "By leasing the business unit of the Savona shipyard, Palumbo Group will grant the restart of the shipyard's activities, along with the immediate reinstatement of nine employees." Palumbo Group explained in a statement. The deal saves 9 jobs from the Italian shipyard that went into liquidation towards the end of 2017, which put a total of 57 jobs at risk.
Pertamina Delivers First LNG Cargo to Nusantara FSRU
Indonesia's government controlled PT Pertamina said that the first LNG cargo produced with the gas sourced at the field has been delivered to the Nusantara Regas’ Nusantara FSRU in the Jakarta Bay. The shipment is the first LNG cargo since the official PHM became the operator of the Mahakam block as of January 1, 2018. The LNG gas cargo of 2 million per million british thermal units (MMBTU) is delivered to Nusantara Regas One's floating storage and regasification units (FSRU) in Jakarta Bay.
BW Offshore Gets Contract Extension for FPSO Polvo
BW Offshore has signed an agreement with Petrorio for a one-year extension for the lease and operation of the FPSO Polvo. The firm period has been extended to Q3 2019 (from Q3 2018), with options until Q3 2022. The company has also announced that BW Catcher FPSO received the First Oil Certificate following the successful completion of the 72-hour interim performance test subsequent to the introduction of hydrocarbons on 23rd December 2017.

USS Wasp Joins 7th Fleet
The amphibious assault ship USS Wasp (LHD 1) entered U.S. 7th Fleet area of operations Jan. 6 after completing nearly two months of disaster relief efforts in the Caribbean Sea. Wasp departed Norfolk Aug. 30 to replace USS Bonhomme Richard (LHD 6) in Sasebo, Japan as the forward-deployed amphibious assault ship in region. While still in the initial phase of its transit, the ship diverted to the Caribbean on Sept. 4 to assist the U.S.
