Four Japanese Companies Join Modec in Sepia FPSO Deal
Four Japanese companies will invest in a new company established by compatriot Modec with an aim to provide a floating, production, storage and offloading (FPSO) unit for the Petrobras-operated Sepia field offshore Brazil. "MODEC, Mitsui, Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, Marubeni Corporation and Mitsui Engineering & Shipbuilding Co have agreed to jointly invest in a long-term charter business currently promoted by MODEC, for providing a FPSO in the Sepia Area, off the coast of Brazil," said a press release.
Socgen Joins SEA\LNG
French multinational banking and financial services company Societe Generale (Socgen) has joined SEA\LNG, the industry coalition promoting the use of liquefied natural gas (LNG) as a marine fuel. UK Prime Minister Theresa May reshuffled the cabinet replacing John Hayes as the shipping minister with Jo Johnson. Later the government sources confirmed that Jo Johnson was appointed Minister of State at the Department for Transport and Minister for London on 9 January 2018. Jo was Minister of State for Universities, Science, Research and Innovation from July 2016 to January 2018. He was elected Conservative MP for Orpington in May 2010 and re-elected in May 2015.

Seadrill Bondholders Post Cash Deposit for Rival Restructuring
Owners of unsecured bonds in rig firm Seadrill have posted a cash deposit to back an alternative financial restructuring, paving the way for talks with the drilling operator over its future, the two sides said on Monday. Seadrill, once the largest drilling rig operator by market value, filed for bankruptcy protection in a U.S. court on Sept. 12 after being hit hard by cutbacks in oil company investment following a steep drop in crude prices.
$22 Mln Cocaine Bust in Port of Philadelphia
U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) said its officers in the Port of Philadelphia seized 709 pounds of cocaine concealed inside furniture on a containership arriving from Puerto Rico, the largest local cocaine load discovered by the CBP in a decade. Officers made the discovery after detecting an anomaly in one of the shipping containers while conducting inspections a seaport in Pennsauken, N.J., on November 2.

The Alabama Pilot, Inc. in Mobile, Ala., has taken delivery of Dixey, a newly built Chesapeake Class pilot boat from Gladding-Hearn Shipbuilding, Duclos Corporation. With length overall of 53.6’, beam of 17.8’, and draft of 4.8’, the all-aluminum pilot boat features the C. Raymond Hunt-designed Deep-V hull. It is powered by twin Caterpillar C-18 diesel engines, each delivering 671Bhp at 2100 rpm and a top speed of 27 knots.

Coast Guard Calls off Search for Pilot Missing in GoM
The U.S Coast Guard has called off the search for missing pilot Bill Kinsinger, 55, and his Cirrus aircraft that vanished over the Gulf of Mexico. Downed US Navy Aircraft Found in Philippine Sea
A U.S. Navy team has located a C-2A Greyhound aircraft that crashed in the Philippine Sea on November 22. The downed aircraft rests at a depth of about 18,500 feet, making the salvage operation the deepest recovery attempt of an aircraft to date, the Navy said, adding it will make every effort will be made to recover the aircraft and fallen Sailors, despite very challenging conditions. Eight of the 11 crew and passengers on board were recovered immediately following the crash.
