Nigerian Seaborne Import of Clean Petroleum Products Falls 39%
“During the first seven months of 2025, Nigeria’s seaborne imports of clean petroleum products (CPP) declined by 39% compared to the same period in 2024, reaching 230 thousand barrels per day (kbpd). The decrease follows a 19% reduction during 2024,” says Niels Rasmussen, Chief Shipping Analyst at BIMCO.The reduction in imports is due to the start of operations at the 650 kbpd capacity Dangote refinery early last year. By June 2025, the refinery’s output had reached 550 kbpd, as reported by company officials.“Imports from Northern Europe have reduced the most.

The Problem with Reducing Underwater Radiated Noise
If the global commercial fleet reduced its speed by 10%, it would reduce underwater radiated noise by 40%, but nothing’s ever that simple. The main thing holding the shipping industry back from reducing its underwater radiated noise (URN) is not a lack of appropriate technology. It’s argued that many of the technologies being implemented today to reduce fuel consumption also reduce noise. So, the noise reductions could essentially come at no net cost to the shipowner, but there’s a lack of regulation and a lack of targeted incentives…

Chemical Tanker Owners Seek Fleet Renewal
An easing of chemical tanker earnings in Q2 has not discouraged owners tempted to place newbuilding orders. After a period of extremely strong vessel earnings and asset valuations, an unwinding of the support that created the earnings boom has seen spot and time charter rates fall from their highs, though still remain at elevated levels. This bifurcation of the market has seen owners tempted back to the shipyards with ordering picking up steadily from Q1 and into Q2, reports MSI in its Chemical Tankers Q2 2023 report.
