PD Ports Expands Operations with Third Electric Liebherr LPS 550

An LPS 550 fitted with an electric drive from Liebherr’s Baltic-side production facility has been delivered to Middlesbrough to increase PD Ports’ productivity. The new machine will focus on bulk work at Teesport, complementing two sister cranes commissioned in 2023, strengthening hatch coverage and maintaining consistent cycle times.Day-to-day, the Port supports a complex gateway that handles tens of millions of tonnes of cargo each year, with over USD$1.9 billion (£1.4 billion) contributed to the regional economy.

German Shipowner Buys Two Multi-Purpose Vessels

Germany’s Ernst Russ has acquired two multi-purpose vessels, MV Ronnie and MV Charlie, as part of its long-term fleet strategy to expand exposure to the project cargo segment and strengthen predictable earnings.The Hamburg-based shipowner said both vessels have been fixed on seven-year charters to dship Carriers, a globally operating European company specialized in project cargo, providing long-term employment and improved cash flow visibility.The vessels, scheduled for handover in the first quarter of 2026

The new Liebherr BOS 45000 crane has been acquired by Eunsung O&C Co., Ltd., known for its expertise in ground improvement, foundation engineering and complex onshore and offshore infrastructure projects. The BOS 45000 will equip a jack-up barge that will install offshore wind turbines and carry out maintenance work in Asian waters. Associated Terminals and Liebherr Maritime Cranes celebrated the christening of two CBG 500 E cranes in New Orleans, introducing the first all-electric transshipment cranes of their kind on the Lower Mississippi River. Each crane is engineered for high-volume bulk handling, offering maximum grab capacities of 90 tonnes in sheltered waters and up to 65 tonnes inopen water, complemented by a lattice boom design with up to 50 metres outreach. Integrated LiCaTronic energy recovery systems improve efficiency by recovering energy generated when braking or lowering loads

Liebherr Reports Growth in Electric-Powered Mobile Harbor Cranes

Liebherr, a leader in mobile harbor crane technology, has reached over 2,000 mobile harbor cranes produced and approximately 1,600 units in active service across more than 100 countries.Key regions have embraced electrically driven mobile harbor cranes; India leads in adoption, followed closely by Türkiye. In Europe, the Netherlands, France and Poland also demonstrate steady demand for e-drive technology, alongside the United States and the United Kingdom.Between 2019 and 2025, Liebherr recorded an increase of 400% in its electric drive mobile harbor cranes.

Liebherr to Equip dship’s Fleet with Eight Heavy-Lift Cranes

dship Carriers from Hamburg has selected Liebherr’s LS 250 heavy-duty cranes to equip at least four of the ships in its fleet.The LS 250 cranes are designed to comply with the requirements of the St. Lawrence Regulations. These regulations apply to ships navigating the St. Lawrence Seaway and connecting the Great Lakes in Canada with the Atlantic Ocean.Manufactured at Liebherr’s Rostock site at the German Baltic coast, the eight cranes will be delivered to a Chinese shipyard in 2026.

PT Bahtera Bahari Shipyard Purchases Indonesia’s First All-Electric CBG 500 E Crane

PT Bahtera Bahari Shipyard (PT BBS) has purchased Liebherr’s CBG 500 E. Scheduled for delivery in October 2025, the crane will be installed on a barge currently under construction at their Batam facility. The CBG 500 E features a rope luffing mechanism, a 65-ton safe working load in grab operation, and a 43-meter outreach—making it ideal for high-volumecoal handling. Its all-electric drive system, supported by the Licatronic energy recovery system and supercapacitors, ensures reduced emissions and optimized energy use.

Danish logistics specialist deugro and its partners Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy A/S and Amasus Offshore B.V. are moving full steam ahead with the next generation of purpose-built transport vessels for the offshore wind sector. In a key milestone for offshore project logistics, the Rotra Futura was delivered on March 30, 2025, and just four days later, her sister ship Rotra Horizon was launched from Zhenjiang Shipyards in Jiangsu Province, China. Crane specialist Liebherr has supplied two offshore cranes to Yinson Production, which will support the operations of Agogo floating production storage and offloading unit (FPSO) at Azule Energy’s field offshore Angola.Two offshore cranes of the type RL 2600 (Ram Luffing 2600) and RL-K 2600 (Ram Luffing knuckle boom 2600) have been sold to Yinson Production, which is in charge of the provision, operation and maintenance of the Agogo FPSO.The cranes, with a maximum lifting capacity of up to 30 tonnes and a maximum boom outreach of over 30 metres each

New York City Economic Development Corporation (NYCEDC) announced the execution of three maritime infrastructure related contracts to upgrade port operations at the Brooklyn Marine Terminal. International Car Operator NV (ICO) has acquired a second Liebherr mobile harbor crane, the LHM 550, further enhancing its operational capabilities at the Vrasene terminal in Antwerp. Crane specialist Liebherr has delivered its third ship to shore (STS) container crane to PSA Penn Terminals in Philadelphia.PSA Penn Terminals received its third Liebherr STS crane in September 2024, complementing the two commissioned in 2018.The new STS crane features a 157 ft (48 m) outreach, a 60 ft (18.288 m) span, and a 50 ft (15 m) back reach, with a lift height of 115 ft (35 m) over rail and a safe working load (SWL) of 66 tonnes.The STS crane is designed to significantly boost operational efficiency and capacity at the terminal

Liebherr worked with AYRO, the French industrial start-up that recently successfully equipped the Canopée vessel with four OceanWings, making it the first hybrid industrial cargo ship powered by wind.With a height of 37 metres and a surface area of 363 m² each, this automated, lowerable and patented vertical wingsail technology will help the ship cut fossil fuel consumption.AYRO’s 37-m-high wingsails require a special solution due to their size, especially regarding its electrical actuators.
