Port Houston Box Volume Up 12%

Container volume at Port Houston surged in the first half of 2019, rising 12 percent compared to that period last year. IRClass Classification for 54 BSF Vessels

The Indian Register of Shipping (IRClass) has secured an order for providing classification services for nine floating border out posts (FBOPs) and 36 patrol boats of the Border Security Force (BSF).IRClass, a 'Preferred Partner' to the Indian Navy, has considerably increased the range of its services to Ministry of Home Affairs in classing and certifying water crafts for paramilitary forces.The Ministry, in turn, has reciprocated by stipulating that the FBOPs, besides being built to IRClass rules, are also maintained in class for 13 years after delivery.

VA Offshore Wind: A Strong Foundation

Virginia officials have established a well-planned, extensive strategy to build out an offshore wind industry, including wind towers for electricity generation and the supply chain to support that extensive infrastructure and operations. The State’s big picture is ambitious: developing 2,000 MW of offshore wind by 2028.As currently envisioned, VA’s offshore wind development will likely start this year with two 8-megawatt wind turbines 27 miles off the coast of Virginia Beach. This is a Dominion Energy pilot undertaken in partnership with the Danish wind company Orsted.

Gordon Dadds Acquires Maritime Law Firm Ince & Co

Gordon Dadds Group plc said it agreed to buy one best known names in maritime law Ince & Co International.The merged firms will become a new global legal business and the largest listed law firm in the UK by revenue.Ince is a network of affiliated international commercial law firms, serving its global client base from offices across Asia, Europe and the Middle East. Huntington Ingalls Industries' Newport News Shipbuilding division is partnering with the Commonwealth of Virginia in support of its major hiring initiative. Gov. Ralph Northam announced that various state agencies and regional community colleges will work with Newport News to augment ongoing efforts to hire as many as 7,000 new shipbuilders over the next five years. Huntington Ingalls Industries Newport News Shipbuilding division has successfully completed the initial sea trials on the newest Virginia-class submarine, Indiana (SSN 789). The initial round of sea trials, known as alpha trials, provides an opportunity to test all systems and components.
