Radio Holland Turns 100
Radio Holland Group (Rotterdam) celebrated its 100th anniversary in the maritime shipping industry. The event took place on board of the historical ship ss Rotterdam, in the port of Rotterdam where Radio Holland also has its headquarters. Paul Smulders, CEO of Radio Holland, welcomed the Mayor of Rotterdam, Ing. A. Aboutaleb and presented the Mayor with the first edition of the book ‘A century Radio Holland, 1916-2016’. Radio Holland Group Buys Majority of S+L Marine
Radio Holland Group announced that it increased its share in the company S+L Marine, with branches in Hamburg and Rostock. This means Radio Holland Group is now major shareholder (80 percent) in the company. To make clear that the company is truly a part of the Radio Holland Group, it was decided to change the name into Radio Holland Germany. Henk Aardse, former manager of Radio Holland Delfzijl (Netherlands), has been appointed as General Manager and Michael Slachcinski as Deputy General Manager of Radio Holland Germany.
Radio Holland Goes Broadband
Radio Holland has developed a new VSAT package: hardware, airtime and leasing all in one box. The standard package provides internet access, voice lines and three bandwidth levels and fulfills the needs of most customers. The package is called Connector by Radio Holland and this service is available at all Radio Holland branches around the world. Through Radio Holland's worldwide network of branches along the shipping routes, support is guaranteed. Connector by Radio Holland is supported by Radio Holland Connect, the satcom competence center within the Radio Holland Group.
Radio Holland Opens Malaysia Office
Radio Holland Group opened a new office in Malaysia on February 26, 2004, the 49th branch office of the Radio Holland Group. The official opening took place at the Tanjung Puteri Golf Resort, Pasir Gudang, Johor. Present as a guest of honor was Dato’ Mohd Taufik Abdullah, Chairman of the Port of Tanjung Pelepas and Executive Chairman of Johor Port. He performed the official opening together with Mr. David Slager, Chairman of the Board and CEO of the Radio Holland Group. Approximately 100 guests from Malaysia and Singapore attended the event. Radio Holland Malaysia is Radio Holland’s response to the increasing marine activities in Malaysia and specifically in the Port of Tanjung Pelepas, which had another record-breaking year in 2003 with an annual throughput of almost 3.5 million TEU.
Radio Holland Celebrates 90 Years
Radio Holland Group (Rotterdam) celebrated its 90th anniversary in the maritime shipping industry. The company was founded in 1916 in Amsterdam as the "Nederlandsche Telegraaf Maatschappij Radio-Holland" by a group of Dutch ship owners. They saw the significance and necessity of radio communications to the safety and efficiency of shipping. Radio Holland began installing radio stations on board of Dutch merchant vessels. In those years and up to the nineties Radio Holland also employed the radio-officer (also called 'sparks') on board, who operated the equipment and in the early days, the morse key. For this purpose, Radio Holland founded a special own training college for radio-officers after the first World War, in Amsterdam.
Radio Holland Revamps Cruise Ship Bridge
Holland America Line’s cruise ship MS Noordam recently underwent a 10-day dry-dock period, during which it was fit with a customized bridge from Radio Holland. The work on Netherlands-flagged MS Noordam included refitting the navigation and bridge systems to improve working conditions in line with HAL’s Bridge Resource Management concept. Radio Holland, a supplier, installer and maintainer of maritime electronics, also provided additional equipment including an upgrade of the autopilot interface with the propulsion systems to deliver fuel savings.
CNCo Orders Remote Monitoring for 35 Vessels
Radio Holland, a global NavCom and service company in the maritime industry, said it has concluded a maintenance and remote monitoring agreement with The China Navigation Company (CNCo) for 35 vessels. Radio Holland already provides CNCo’s newbuild, multipurpose vessels and bulk carriers with NavCom packages, and the latest agreement now covers the maintenance of this equipment on board 35 vessels. This further cooperation follows a remote monitoring pilot project. Radio Holland will now introduce remote monitoring throughout CNCo’s fleet.
Smulders Appointed CEO of Radio Holland
Paul Smulders has been appointed CEO of Radio Holland, part of the RH Marine Group (formerly Imtech Marine). Smulders returns to Radio Holland where he started his career ashore in 1989 as sales engineer deepsea, after a career at sea as nautical officer. From 1993 on he fulfilled various positions, such as sales manager for the Radio Holland Hong Kong sales activities in China, Taiwan and Hong Kong, and in the Netherlands as Area Sales Manager and Managing Director of Radio Holland Netherlands.
Radio Holland Commissions First Fleet Broadband
In December 2007 Radio Holland installed and commissioned the first Fleet Broadband terminal on MOV Van Kinsbergen. Radio Holland Netherlands was contacted by Stratos to arrange the installation of a Thrane & Thrane SAILOR-500 Fleet Broadband terminal on board this vessel of the Royal Netherlands Navy. The installation is part of a field test into the new maritime broadband service. The Royal Netherlands Navy was selected by the Inmarsat distribution partner Stratos as one of the first customers in a worldwide test of the new maritime broadband service.

Seacoast is Now Radio Holland USA
Radio Holland Group announced that as of Jan. 15 2009, the business of Seacoast Electronics and Radio Holland USA was fully merged into a single company. Seacoast became part of the Radio Holland Group organization in 2007. Since then, the cooperation between Radio Holland USA and Seacoast has become intensive, synergies have been identified and applied, and now the time has come to fully team up and become one organization. Seacoast Electronics has begun trading as Radio Holland USA from the Jacksonville and Tampa offices, which now also carry the Radio Holland name. As a result the Seacoast name will cease to exist. Bridges Refit on Two Holland America Line Ships
Two major bridge refit contracts have been completed by Radio Holland USA on Holland America Line’s cruise ships Oosterdam and Prinsendam. The bridge refit on board the M/S Oosterdam was concluded in Palermo, Sicily in early May. Then just days later Radio Holland continued with a bridge upgrade project for the M/S Prinsendam, which took place in Freeport, Grand Bahama. Radio Holland, Thome Ship Management Ink SRA Deal for 200 vessels
Thome Ship Management Pte Ltd and Radio Holland Singapore have concluded a Service Rate Agreement (SRA) covering the NavCom service and maintenance needs of its entire fleet of more than 200 vessels. Headquartered in Singapore, Thome Ship Management has worked together with Radio Holland for many years. The two companies have now taken a next step to a new format of cooperation with the SRA, which includes everything from annual radio surveys to servicing bridge equipment, to the delivery of spare parts and on-the-spot troubleshooting.

Radio Holland Awarded Remote Monitoring Agreement
Radio Holland, part of the newly formed company RH Marine Group, has been awarded a Remote Monitoring Agreement from The China Navigation Company (CNCo). Radio Holland, BWFM Ink Service Agreement
Radio Holland, part of Imtech Marine, has won a service agreement with tanker, gas and offshore maritime group BW Fleet Management (BWFM). The two-year agreement covers all the navigation and communication equipment onboard 13 LPG vessels. Radio Holland also provides remote support for these vessels. BWFM has technical responsibility for more than 50 vessels including Very Large Crude Carriers (VLCCs), Long Range 1 product tankers (LR 1s), Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) carriers and Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) carriers.
New Radio Holland Location in UK
Imtech Marine Group and Radio Holland Group announced that a new Radio Holland service location in the southern part of the United Kingdom has been established. The office of Imtech Marine & Offshore in the UK will perform service activities for navigation and communication equipment, trading as Radio Holland. Imtech Marine & Offshore UK will, with direct support from Radio Holland, perform service activities from their service station in the Southampton area. The service area is the United Kingdom including Ireland. Predominantly the office will focus on deep sea and coastal shipping, both on board UK ships as well as serving international shipping visiting UK ports.
Radio Holland Wins Contracts for Canadian Coast Guard Vessels
Radio Holland Canada has won two major contracts to support the Canadian Coast Guard. Public Works and Government Services Canada, which is responsible for government procurement, has awarded Radio Holland Canada a multimillion dollar contract to supply Furuno ECDIS and radars for the Canadian Coast Guard fleet over the next five years. In a separate agreement Hike Metal Products of Wheatley, Ontario has contracted Radio Holland to supply the Navigation & Communication equipment for six new Canadian Coast Guard Search and Rescue Lifeboats.
Radio Holland USA Opens RH Long Beach Branch Operation
Radio Holland USA Inc. has appointed William Thompson as the branch Manager of the Long Beach, Calif., office. Historically, the Long Beach office has been a service center supporting the Radio Holland Group brand for the past 23 years. As Branch Manager for the West Coast territory branch operation, Bill will be instrumental in our growth which includes not only service for our global customer base but also equipment sales and service, fleet management via Fixed Price Maintenance Contracts, VSAT / INMARSAT equipment and Airtime sales and service, as well as S-VDR sales and service. Thompson comes to Radio Holland USA with a management background including positions as General Manager of a national maritime retailer, regulatory compliance consultant and security and safety director.
Radio Holland Improves VSAT Coverage for Northern Sea Route
Ship owners choosing the Northern Sea Route now have additional coverage from Kara Sea to Pacific Ocean. Radio Holland said it is the first provider who expanded its Global Ku-band VSAT network with additional coverage above Northern Europe/Russia. Recently, the Yamal 402 Northern beam has been added to the Radio Holland Global VSAT Network. With this extra beam Radio Holland offers improved coverage for its customers sailing from the Kara Sea to the Pacific Ocean. At this point of time, parts are free of ice for only two months per year.
Imtech Marine Appoints New Sales Managers
Imtech Marine is pleased to announce the addition of two Area Sales Managers to the Radio Holland USA team. Mike Pizer of Houston, and John Schwiering of Ft. Lauderdale recently joined the Radio Holland sales team, adding more than 40 years of navigation and communication experience to the RHUSA sales organization. Radio Holland is a member of the global company Imtech Marine. Recently Imtech Marine announced the expansion of its service network in the USA to a total of 15 ports and its intentions of further growth to provide on the spot quality service to ship owners.
Radio Holland Contract with Alaska
Radio Holland USA has been awarded a multi-year contract for supply of VSAT and airtime services for the Alaska Marine Highway System (AMHS). The fleet, a division of the Department of Transportation and Public Facilities, State of Alaska, is made up of 11 vessels; transporting people and vehicles to 34 locations along the Alaska coastline and along a 1000 mile stretch of the Aleutian Chain to the Bering Sea. The route goes through the Inside Passage and passes through islands with high mountains and steep fjords. Due to the extreme northern latitudes and the rugged terrain, typical off the shelf supplied equipment and airtime services would not meet the demanding requirements for the AMHS.
