Digital Naming of Stena Immortal

The digital naming of the MR tanker Stena Immortal took place January 18 at Stena's new office in Hellerup in the north of Copenhagen. The 50,000 dwt Stena Immortal was built at the Guangzhou Shipbuilding International (GSI) shipyard in southeast China and is jointly owned on a 50-50 basis by Stena Bulk and Indonesian Golden Agri Resources (GAR). Following her delivery in September 2016, the 183-meter-long tanker has sailed in one of Stena Bulk's global logistics systems, which currently employ some 60 vessels, with a focus on refined petroleum products, vegetable oils and chemicals.

Concordia Maritime Charters Two More MR Vessels

Swedish tanker owner Concordia Maritime has chartered in two more MR (ECO) vessels, while also extending the contracts for two of the currently chartered MR (ECO) vessels by a further year. A contract to charter out the P-MAX tanker Stena Performance has also been signed. The contractual partner is a large global oil company and the vessel will be used primarily for niche traffic in the Middle East. As with previous charters, these latest contracts are joint charters with Stena Bulk, and Concordia Maritime’s share amounts to 50 percent.

Stena Bulk Appoints Kihlberg

Stena Bulk, an international tanker owner controlling a fleet of more than 75 tankers from seven offices in six countries, announced the appointment of Mr. Jonas Kihlberg to the position as Senior Vice President of the Stena Bulk Group Worldwide and Head of Stena Bulk LLC. In his position, Kihlberg will focus on expanding and strengthening the market presence and profitability in US/Central and South America. Kihlberg will take up his new role from Stena Bulk's offices in Houston, Texas, USA. Kihlberg returns to Stena Bulk after three years as Manager Chartering with the worlds 3rd largest independent trading house Trafigura AG and a year as Vice President of Skaugen Petrotrans.

Stena Bulk Takes Control of Stena Weco

Stena Bulk has agreed to purchase the remaining 50 percent of the shares in Stena Weco from its partner WECO Shipping. Stena Weco will thus be wholly owned by Stena Bulk. Stena Weco’s head office will remain as it is today in Denmark in addition to the regional offices in Singapore, Dubai and Houston. Within the agreement between Stena Bulk and Weco, WECO Shipping will continue to run their controlled fleet in the Stena Weco logistic system. Stena Weco currently operates around 65 vessels, about half of which are owned and half chartered.

The MR tanker Stena Imagination was named in the Port Rashid Terminal in the heart of Dubai. According to Erik Hånell, President & CEO of Stena Bulk and CEO of Stena Weco, “Naming the Stena Imagination in Dubai is very much a strategic choice. Stena Bulk recently opened an office here together with Stena Weco and Golden Stena Weco. We already had a presence in the market in the region but wanted to get even closer to our customers. Stena’s tanker business already has a presence in the area with contacts in the neighboring region.

A new 50,000 DWT MR chemical and product tanker based on the IMOIIMAX concept, Stena Imperial, was named yesterday in Savannah, Ga. Built by Chinese shipyard Guangzhou Shipbuilding International (GSI) and delivered on July 1, Stena Imperial recently arrived in Savannah on the U.S. East Coast with a cargo of palm oil. The new ship is owned by a joint venture of which Stena Bulk and Indonesian Golden Agri Resources (GAR) each own 50 percent. She is the third of 10 vessels ordered by Stena Bulk for a total of $400 million with delivery to be completed by 2017.

Stena Bulk Reports Profit for 2006

Stena Bulk finished another successful year with a profit of almost $141m. With a deployed fleet of 60 vessels totaling more than 6 million dwt, Stena Bulk is the largest tanker shipping company in Sweden. The company has a market share of 40% in the Caribbean, 20% on the North Sea and 15% in the Baltic Sea. A total of about 2,000 persons are involved in Stena Bulk’s activities, including about 50 persons ashore at offices in Gothenburg, Houston, London, Moscow, Singapore and Beijing. Five new vessels were delivered in 2006 and a further six have been ordered for delivery up until 2010. These six units are all so-called Stena P-MAX tankers and will join the fleet of ten vessels of the same design…

Stena Bulk Orders New Generation Tankers

Stena Bulk has confirmed an order for two in-house designed Suezmax tankers from Samsung, South Korea for delivery in 2011. The 158,700 dwt vessels, with a length of 899 ft and a beam of 157.5 ft, will be when delivered the largest tankers in Stena Bulk’s fleet. Also included are two optional sister vessels, declarable spring 2010. Nearly $7m extra per vessel has been invested in state-of-the-art technology in order ensure the highest environmental class including minimum 10 percent lower bunkers consumption compared with the best Suezmax tankers of today. The order of the Stena Superior and the Stena Supreme is part of Stena Bulk’s strategic investment in own high-class tonnage for the Stena Sonangol Suezmax Pool…

Top Ships Gets TC Extension for Four Vessels

TOP Ships, an international ship-owning company, announced that it has extended the time charter agreements with Stena Bulk AB (ex Stena Weco AS) by 12 months for M/T Stenaweco Energy and M/T Stenaweco Elegance and by 18 months for M/T Stenaweco Evolution and M/T Stenaweco Excellence. The Company expects a total gross revenue backlog associated with these time charter extensions of $27.4 million.

Danish Princess Names Stenaweco Impulse

Newly built chemical and product tanker Stenaweco Impulse was named by H.R.H. Crown Princess Mary of Denmark, whobroke a bottle of champagne against the tanker’s bow and wished the vessel, her captain and his crew fortune and prosperity. Named on Monday at a cerempny at Langelinie Pier in the center of Copenhagen, Stenaweco Impulse is the newest vessel owned by Stena Weco, a joint venture between Swedish Stena Bulk and Danish Weco Shipping for the transport of vegetable oils, chemicals and petroleum products.

Stena Bulk, Sonangol Suezmax Pool Reinforced

Stena Bulk and the Angolan oil company Sonangol strengthen the Stena Sonangol Suezmax Pool with the addition of a further two ultramodern tankers. “These tankers will be added to the pool, which is fully controlled by Stena Bulk and Sonangol. The pool now has a total of 18 tankers and there will be 30 tankers at mid 2012 as our ultramodern newbuildings continue to be delivered,” said Ulf G. Ryder, CEO and President of Stena Bulk. The M/T Mare Doricum was added to the pool in January 2011, followed by M/T Mare Picenum in February. Both these 158,000 dwt Suezmax tankers were built at Samsung Shipyard in South Korea in 2009. Their owner is the well-reputed Italian shipping company Fratelli d’Amico Amatori, which owns and operates a fleet of 11 crude oil tankers.

Stena Bulk Buys into Paradise Tankers

The tankers, which will be renamed Stena Callas, Stena Chronos and Stena Chiron, are modern epoxy-coated Panamax tankers of 73,500 tons deadweight, all of which will be withdrawn from the Star Tankers Pool and immediately enter the Stena Sonangol Panamax Pool. The Panamax pool is a direct spinoff from the successful collaboration with ’s national oil company Sonangol, involving a 15-tanker strong Suezmax pool, which Stena Bulk and Sonangol have successfully been operating for five years. The venture provides with cash, and a new form of collaboration with Stena Bulk.

Stena Bulk Charters Out LNG Carrier

Stena Bulk has signed an agreement covering the charter of the LNG carrier Stena Blue Sky for the North West Shelf Project in Australia. The duration of the charter is up to three years with a possible further extension as a goal. The contract was signed at current market freight rates. The tanker will sail between Australia and Japan as well as other countries in the Far East. The North West Shelf Project is Australia’s largest oil and gas development and has delivered more than 4,000 LNG cargoes to customers predominantly in the Asia Pacific region since 1989.

MR Tanker Stena Impeccable Named in Rotterdam

The latest IMOIIMAX tanker to be delivered, Stena Impeccable, was officially named during a ceremony in the Port of Rotterdam. The vessel’s godmother was Trintje Margaretha Oosters, from Dutch RVB Company with which Stena Bulk and Stena Weco have a long-lasting relationship. The Stena Impeccable was delivered at the beginning of March this year after which she sailed from China to Australia with a cargo of caustic soda. She then sailed with a cargo of vegetable oil from New Guinea via Singapore and the Suez Canal to Rotterdam.

Stena Bulk Acquires Tankers

Stena Bulk has purchased three MR product tankers from Italian Gestioni Armatoriali Spa in Ravenna with delivery set for February, 2008. The three vessels, the Stena Conqueror, the Stena Conquest and the Stena Italica, which Stena has controlled via long-term charters ever since they were built, will continue to be operated from Stena Bulk's office in Houston. They will transport clean petroleum products for, among others, US oil companies including Chevron. The three MR vessels are modern, well-designed product tankers of 47,000 dwt built at the classic shipyard Uljanik in Croatian Pula in 2003-2004. They are earmarked for traffic in the US and the Caribbean. The class of ships goes under the name Stena S-47 and is characterized by a very shallow draft and a highly flexible cargo system.

Stena Bulk Doubles Medium Range Fleet with Danish Merger

Stena Bulk is increasing its MR segment (Medium Range product tankers of 50,000 dwt) by acquiring 50 percent of the Danish shipping company Weco. This means that Stena Bulk has doubled its fleet in this segment from 15 to 30 tankers. Its objective over the next couple of years is to build up an operation with upwards of 50 vessels under the new brand name of Stena Weco. Weco, which is part of the privately owned shipping group Dannebrog, is a market leader in the transportation of special-type products such as palm oils, edible oils and caustic soda. Weco currently operates some 15 vessels with peaks of 30-35 vessels, including short-term charters. “This is in line with our new investment in worldwide MR operation with a greater focus on cargoes of edible oils.

Two newly built vessels owned by Stena Bulk, Stena Imperator and sister ship Stena Imprimis, were named side by side at the Chinese shipyard Guangzhou Shipbuilding International (GSI) in Guangzhou in southeast China. The two godmothers – for the Stena Imperator, Ylva Syrén Carlsson and for the Stena Imprimis, Denise Baum – wished the vessels, their captains and crews fortune and prosperity on the seven seas and swung the bottles of champagne against the tankers’ bows. The two vessels are numbers 11 and 12 in a series of 13 IMOIIMAX tankers ordered by Stena Bulk…

MR Tanker Stena Imagination Delivered

Chinese shipyard GSI (Guangzhou Shipbuilding International) has delivered the newly built MR tanker Stena Imagination to 50-50 joint owners Stena Bulk and Indonesian Golden Agri Resources (GAR). She will be operated by Stena Weco and sail in the company’s global logistics system, which currently employs about 60 vessels. Stena Imagination is the seventh of 13 IMOIIMAX tankers ordered by Stena Bulk. Three of the 13 IMOIIMAX tankers are wholly owned by Stena Bulk, six together with GAR, two by Stena Bulk’s sister company Concordia Maritime and two by Stena Weco.

The Stena Immortal was delivered yesterday from the Chinese shipyard GSI (Guangzhou Shipbuilding International) in southeast China. The vessel is jointly owned on a 50-50 basis by Stena Bulk and Indonesian Golden Agri Resources (GAR) and is the eighth of a total of 13 IMOIIMAX tankers ordered by Stena Bulk in 2012. She will be operated by Stena Weco and will sail in the company’s global logistics system, which currently employs about 60 vessels. 2016: The Stena Imperative, Stenaweco Impulse and Stena Imagination.

Joint Cooperation for Stena Bulk, Sovcomflot

The tanker Stena Arctica will be named in the Port of Göteborg. With its 117,100 dwt, the vessel is the largest Swedish flagged ship in the Swedish merchant navy and the world’s largest tanker with the highest class in service. The Stena Arctica, in cooperation with Sovcomflot – the largest shipping company in Russia – will mainly transport Russian crude oil from the Gulf of Finland to the Continent. The cooperation between the shipping companies Stena Bulk and Sovcomflot includes building up a pool of 10-15 ice-strengthened tankers, due to begin in February, 2006. The objective is to ship 20-25 million tons of Russian oil per year from the Baltic to the UK/Continent. Stena Bulk and Sovcomfolt also plan to jointly develop a so-called B-MAX tanker, with B standing for Baltic.

Stena Bulk To Invest In VLCCs

Sweden's Stena Bulk will reportedly invest in and manage two new VLCC tankers being built in Japan for Golden Ocean Group, and has an option on a third vessel. Stena Bulk expects to take delivery of the first two vessels in the beginning of November. The company will take a financial stake in the 300,000-dwt ships over an initial five-year period, equivalent to 30 percent stakes in the ships after five years. The deal originated from an approach by Golden Ocean's bankers to take part in the financial restructuring after the company had initially said it would charter the ships to Stena. The option on the third vessel will be decided in the next few weeks. It is possible further deals could be done with Golden Ocean, Stena Bull officials said.

Concordia Maritime Charters 2 P-MAX Tankers

Concordia Maritime signed time-charter contract for two P-MAX tankers and launched a pool with four vessels. The time-charter contracts are with Stena Bulk and cover the wholly owned Concordia Maritime tankers Stena Perros and Stena President, for one year each. The pool to be started up by Concordia Maritime and Stena Bulk will also include the P-MAX vessels Stena Penguin and Stena Primorsk for the same period of time. The four tankers will transport heavy petroleum products, primarily in the Atlantic market.

Stena Bulk, via Stena Weco and Golden Stena Weco, has opened a new office in Dubai and will move in this month. The official inauguration will take place in January next year. The company already has a presence in the market in the region but said it wants to get closer to its customers to continue to develop the transportation of chemicals and petroleum products. For Stena Bulk and Stena Weco, which, with its IMOIIMAX fleet, is focusing increasingly on trade with chemicals, Dubai is a strategic hub.
