Sweden has received "very strong indications" that a British oil tanker seized last month by Iran in the Strait of Hormuz is to be released soon, Swedish public service broadcaster SVT reported on Thursday, citing sources within Sweden's foreign ministry.The Stena Impero, British-owned but operated by Swedish company Stena Bulk, was captured by Iran's Revolutionary Guards on July 19 after passing through the strait at the mouth of the Gulf.Iran's foreign minister, Mohammad Javad Zarif, visited Sweden earlier this week for talks with Sweden's foreign minister Margot Wallstrom.

Stena Impero Owner Met Iran's Zarif to Urge Release of UK-flagged Ship

The owner of a British-flagged tanker detained in Iran has met the country's foreign minister, Mohammad Javad Zarif, to make the case for the ship and its crew to be released.Erik Hanell, chief executive of Stena Bulk, met Zarif in Stockholm on Aug. 20 to ask for the Stena Impero to be released. It was detained by Tehran on July 19, two weeks after Britain detained an Iranian tanker off the territory of Gibraltar. Stena Bulk  chief executive and president Erik Hanell wrote to Indian prime minister Narendra Modi to personally enter the efforts to secure the release of UK-flagged tanker ship Stena Impero and its primarily Indian crew members, who have been detained in Iran since mid-July.According to media reports, the owner of British-flagged oil tanker Stena Impero, which was seized by Iran on July 19 with 23 crew, including 18 Indians on board, has appealed to  Modi personally intervene to negotiate with Tehran.The oil tanker Stena Impero was seized by Iran while passing through the Hormuz Strait.

Stena Bulk has made a major investment in scrubbers and before January 2020 16 units will be installed. 10 IMOIIMAXes, 5 Suezmaxes and one of standard MR will be equipped with the after-treatment system. Sale of Positions in Chartered-in Suezmax Vessels

Concordia Maritime is selling the positions previously taken in four chartered-in Suezmax vessels. The economic value corresponds to an EBITDA of  $5.3 million.As part of the fleet positioning ahead of the gradually stronger market that was expected, Concordia Maritime participated in period charters of four Suezmax tankers. Concordia Maritime’s share was 50 percent. Stena Bulk accounted for the remaining 50 percent and the owner of the ships also had a profit-sharing entitlement.As anticipated, the stronger market has now materialized and the positions have a clear economic value. Concordia Maritime has today agreed with Stena Bulk to sell the shares in the above-mentioned period charters January 1 2019 to the end of the charter period.

Pirate Attack Thwarted West of Yemen

On November 3 the Stena Imperial reported a suspected pirate approach while on northbound passage through the Red Sea west of Yemen on her way from Far East to Rotterdam for discharge.Two suspicious skiffs were found approaching Stena Imperial from the port side at a distance of 1.5 nautical miles. The alarm was raised and the Master and the on board security team mustered on the bridge. Hand flares were fired towards the skiffs as warning shot as they were continuously approaching towards the vessel.

Stena Bulk Confirms Scrubber Order with Bluesoul

Stena Bulk has signed a turnkey exhaust gas scrubber solution agreement with Chinese Bluesoul to equip its Suezmax and IMOIIMAX fleets. In total, Stena Bulk will equip 15 vessels with scrubbers and have an additional six options for installation prior to 2020.The scrubber to be installed is an Open Loop Hybrid Ready with Water Cleaning, which not only removes the sulfur but also particles from the exhaust.Shanghai Bluesoul Environment Technology, with its base in Shanghai, has had a collaboration agreement with the Stena Group for more than a year.

Golden-Agri Stena, a joint venture between Sweden based tanker shipping company Stena Bulk and Indonesia’s largest palm oil producer Golden Agri-Resources, has started a new joint venture with Japan's Bay Crest Management for the the operation and commercial management of chemical tankers.The new joint venture, GSB Tankers, will commence operation on January 1, 2019, managing 18 chemical tankers to start, with the aim of managing 30 vessels within the next two years.The joint venture will operate out of the existing premises of Golden-Agri Stena.

Stena Bulk Charters Out MR Tanker Pair to Petrobras

Stena Bulk said it has signed a contract with Brazil's state-owned oil company to charter out a pair of MR product tankers for transporting refined products along the Brazilian coast.
