Royal IHC Launches TSHD Newbuild

A new multipurpose 5,450m3 trailing suction hopper dredger (TSHD) was officially named and launched during a ceremony on January 11 at Royal IHC’s shipyard in Krimpen aan den IJssel, The Netherlands. The dredger, named DC Orisant, is being built for a joint venture between Den Herder (Reimerswaal Dredging) and Group de Cloedt and is slated for delivery in mid-2018 for work in the dredging and offshore wind markets. “The DC Orisant is a TSHD with full system redundancy and can perform a wide range of projects.

Adani Adds Two New Dredgers to Its Fleet

India’s largest private multi-port operator Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone Ltd (APSEZ) inaugurated two new 8,000m3 trailing suction hopper dredgers (TSHDs) on January 8. Both dredgers were built by Royal IHC in The Netherlands and recently arrived at Adani’s Hazira Port in Gujarat, India, after their maiden voyage through the Suez Canal. The vessels are the 11th and 12th dredgers supplied by Royal IHC to APSEZ and are among the largest in the Indian fleet of TSHDs. “[The new dredgers] will substantially increase our capacity for dredging.

WMI, ESG Sign Contract to Complete Dredger

Weeks Marine, Inc. (WMI) and Eastern Shipbuilding Group, Inc. (ESG) signed a contract to complete the construction of its Trailing Suction Hopper Dredger, the MAGDALEN. This 356’ Twin Screw Trailing Suction Hopper Dredger will be constructed at Eastern’s Allanton Panama City, Florida facility. Weeks Marine is another Eastern repeat client. This new construction Dredger project continues our commitment to the US Jones Act maritime industry and its long history of being a successful diversified US Shipbuilder.

GDC’s New Dredger Launched in The Netherlands

The naming and launch ceremony of the trailing suction hopper dredger (TSHD) Jun Yang 1 took place on Saturday, December 19, 2015 at Royal IHC’s shipyard in Kinderdijk, The Netherlands. The dredger is being built for CCCC Guangzhou Dredging Co., Ltd (GDC), and the ceremony was performed by Li Wen Ci, the wife of H.E. The Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China in The Netherlands. IHC noted it has a long-standing relationship with GDC, and both companies cooperated closely in the design of the dredger.

DEME Orders Trailing Suction Hopper Dredger

With the order of the Bonny River at Royal IHC, the Belgian dredging, environmental and marine engineering group DEME is investing in a new generation of trailing suction hopper dredgers which will be trendsetting in coastal protection and dredging hard soils. Thanks to the combination of unique characteristics such as an extremely long suction pipe, a large transport capacity with limited depth and an additional heavy duty rock draghead, the multidisciplinary ship can be used effectively in shallow water and in hard soils.

VOSTA LMG Builds TSHD for Dutch Dredging

VOSTA has been awarded with the contract for the delivery of a complete engineering and component package for a trailing suction hopper dredge for Dutch Dredging BV (Baggerbedrijf De Boer b.v.) in The Netherlands. The complete order consists of the design and engineering of a 2800 m3 trailing suction hopper dredge, including the delivery of the dredging equipment, propulsion systems, electrical installation, automation, hydraulic installation, navigation & communication systems. The vessel will be built under VOSTA LMG supervision at the Ben Kien Shinco Shipyard based in Hai Phong, Vietnam. This shipyard is part of the Vietnamese Shipbuilding group Vinashin. VOSTA LMG and Ben Kien Shipyard have co-operated before for the construction of two cutter suction dredges.

Trailing Suction Hopper Delivered

In January 2003 VOSTA LMG received an order from Hudong Zhonghua Shipyard for the design and supply of all dredging components for a Trailing Suction Hopper Dredge (TSHD) for the Chinese Harbor Authority Huanghua Port. The dredge was handed over in a festive ceremony by Hudong Zhonghua Shipyard to Huanghua Port Authority on 11 November 2004, after successful dredge trials in the Yangtze estuary. "Shen Hua" has now started her duty; the required, continuos dredging work to maintain the required depth of the port waterway entrance of Huanghua Port.

GIE Dragages Ports Take Delivery of TSHD

French owner GIE Dragages Ports recently took delivery of a 5,000 m3 TSHD (Trailing Suction Hopper Dredger), built at Spanish IZAR Gijon shipyard with yard number C365 and named Daniel Laval. This self-propelled trailing suction hopper dredger is intended to operate in water depths ranging from 1 to 3 meters under the keel, and mainly in the Seine river estuary and in Dunkerque, according to shipowner sources. The order was placed on May 24, 2000, and delivered on February 26th, taking 21 months to be built. Jacques Paul, member of the board of GIE Dragages Ports, told French magazine Ĺ’Le Marin¹ that out of the shorlisted shipbuilders French Chantiers de l¹Atlantique…

Boskalis Wins Hefty German Dredging Contract

Royal Boskalis Westminster N.V. (Boskalis) contracted by Wasser- und Schifffahrtsamt Cuxhaven to maintain 110-km of the River Elbe fairway. The contract is for a period of three years and has a value of approximately EUR 75 million and the dredging operations are to commence in May 2013. The dredging activities are related to maintaining the shipping fairway of the River Elbe between the city of Wedel northward in the direction of Cuxhaven. The river is an important shipping connection between the North Sea and the Port of Hamburg, where Boskalis recently maintained the port's basins.

Boskalis Completes Acquisition of STRABAG Wasserbau

Royal Boskalis Westminster N.V. (Boskalis) has concluded the acquisition of the dredging activities and assets of STRABAG Wasserbau GmbH. The transaction price of EUR 70 million has been financed from Boskalis' own cash. With the transaction Boskalis acquires the equipment, personnel and relevant contracts of STRABAG Wasserbau. The most important assets are two young trailing suction hopper dredgers with a capacity of 7,350 m3 each, a large modern backhoe dredger and four self-propelled barges.

Royal IHC Delivers another Dutch Dredger

On February 18, 2016, Royal IHC delivered the trailing suction hopper dredger (TSHD) Mahury to Baggerbedrijf de Boer – Dutch Dredging. The twin-screw TSHD was built at IHC’s partner shipyard, MTG Dolphin, in Varna, Bulgaria. The Mahury was launched on August 14 and named on October 29, 2015 in Varna. It is the fourth TSHD of Baggerbedrijf de Boer – Dutch Dredging built by IHC, following the Albatros, Amazone and Lesse. DEME Group’s second LNG-powered trailing suction hopper dredger (TSHD) Scheldt River is part of a new generation of dual fuel hoppers that set out to achieve new standards in environmental performance. Launched January 14 at Royal IHC's shipyard in Krimpen aan den IJssel, The Netherlands, the 7,950m3 vessel possesses a number of innovative features and technologies, including an IHC-patented two-speed gearbox as well as a newly developed wing-shaped bow thruster tunnel. Van Oord Orders 2 Dredgers to Be Built in Spain

Van Oord has ordered two trailing suction hopper dredgers to be built by Spanish Construcciones Navales del Norte S.L., LaNaval at its yard in Bilbao. Both vessels are scheduled to be delivered in 2017. According to Van Oord, the order is in line with its innovative investment program and is part of the replacement program of older trailing suction hopper dredgers. The new vessels are a contribution to the further modernization of Van Oord’s fleet and mark the start of a new generation of trailing suction hopper dredgers.

Van der Velden Delivers Largest Ever BARKE Rudders

The Oceangoing vessels division of Van der Velden Marine Systems has delivered the largest in-house designed BARKE rudders in its history. The two flap-type rudders have been installed onboard the 30,000 m³ trailing suction hopper dredger Congo River. Built for the DEME Group, the trailing suction hopper dredger was launched on 21 January at the IHC Merwede shipyard in Krimpen aan den IJssel (NL). Designed by the Product Design Department of Van der Velden Barkemeyer GmbH, the two BARKE rudders each have a rudder area of 30 m2 while each flap has an area of 7.5 m2.

Manson Christens New Trailing Suction Hopper Dredge

Manson Construction Co. recently christened the newest edition to its dredging fleet, a trailing suction hopper dredge dubbed Bayport, at the company's yard on the Duwamish river in Seattle. Bayport is a larger sister ship to Manson's current self-propelled hopper dredge Newport, with an overall size of 303 x 54 x 26-ft. and 5,000 cu. yard capacity. Construction of Bayport was a fast track project for the company. The dump barge hull was reconstructed to become this self-propelled, self-contained hopper dredge, and design work began only in November 1998. The barge, which had been working on a USACE project in San Francisco, was brought to Manson's Seattle yard in February 1999, and since that time was completely transformed under the guidance of Manson's Dave Gertsch and Dave Nielsen.

The cutting ceremony of the 433’ Trailing Suction Hopper Dredge Barge took place in Eastern’s under roof pre-fabrication building at its Allanton facility in Panama City, Florida. This indoor facility supports both of Eastern’s new construction facilities with state of the art equipment and a highly skilled workforce.

TSHD 2500 Barito Equator first of its kind built in Indonesia. The delivery in early May of Trailing Suction Hopper Dredger (TSHD) Barito Equator demonstrates how Indonesia’s developing maritime industry is building ever more complex vessels, according to shipbuilder Damen. The 2,500 m3 capacity Damen TSHD 2500 is the first of its kind built in Indonesia and also the largest Damen standard hopper dredger built to date. Boskalis Secures Dredging Work in Africa

Royal Boskalis Westminster N.V. has been awarded three dredging-related contracts on the African subcontinent with a combined value of approximately EUR 75 million. In Angola, Boskalis has been awarded a contract by Angola LNG Ltd. for dredging activities related to maintaining the access channel and turning basins of the Soyo LNG port. The project will be executed in joint venture and involves the removal of approximately 11 million cubic meters of sand and silt by medium-sized trailing suction hopper dredgers. Work is set to commence in the third quarter of 2015 and will be completed by the end of 2017. Boskalis also executed the initial capital dredging and reclamation works for this LNG port on behalf of Angola LNG Ltd. from early 2007 until mid-2009.

BAE Commences Construction of Hopper Drdge

Executives from the two companies gathered this week at the BAE Systems Mobile shipyard to oversee the initial cutting of steel.

BAE Systems Cuts Steel, Begins Construction on Trailing Suction Hopper Dredge. BAE Systems has begun construction on the MV Magdalen, an 8,500 cubic yard capacity trailing suction hopper dredge for Weeks Marine, Inc. Executives from the two companies gathered this week at the BAE Systems Mobile shipyard to oversee the initial cutting of steel for the vessel’s first module, which will weigh 130 tons. When complete in 2014, the entire vessel will measure 340 feet long and 79 feet wide, with a draft of 27 feet.

Netherlands Shipyard to Build Ship for China

IHC Merwede says it has been successful in securing orders worth € 350 million for a wide range of dredging and offshore vessels and equipment, including a large trailing suction dredger for a Chinese customer. The company's Dredging division has confirmed new contracts for the delivery of a large custom-built trailing suction hopper dredger, with units that will be supplied by IHC Beaver Dredgers as well as a cutter suction dredger training simulator. The Offshore division has also announced orders for the construction of a 300-tonne pipelaying vessel…

Alewijnse Marine Systems To Deliver Amcs/Imc And DP Systems

Alewijnse Marine Systems has signed a contract for the delivery and installation of the alarm monitoring control system, integrated dredging control system and dynamic positioning system onboard two new, 14000m³ dredgers to be constructed at Uljanik Shipyard in Pula, Croatia for the Jan De Nul Group.  The two trailing suction hopper dredgers will have an LOA of 148m and a hopper capacity of 14,000m³, and will add to the Jan De Nul Group's existing fleet of 26 hopper dredgers.   Source: Alewijnse Marine Systems

Trailer Launched at IHC Holland Merwede

On April 28, the trailing suction hopper dredger Marieke, built for the Belgian contractor Dredging, Environmental and Marine Engineering (DEME) took place at IHC Holland Merwede in Sliedrecht, the Netherlands. IHC Holland Dredgers BV and DEME signed the contract for the construction of Marieke in 2005. The construction of the vessel was subcontracted to IHC Holland Beaver Dredgers BV, and the keel was laid down in September 2005. Marieke was designed for working in shallow or deep water, on maintenance jobs, beach replensihment, and land reclamation projects. Source: Dredging News
