MV Celine, the world’s largest short sea Ro-Ro ship, will today be christened in a ceremony at Dublin Port with guest of honour, An Taoiseach, Leo Varadkar TD, Godmother to the new ship, Geraldine O’Reilly, and the port’s chaplains. The formal ceremony is a long-held tradition intended to bring good fortune to the ship and involves breaking a champagne bottle against the hull as the ship is christened.
SOHAR Port Signs Contract with Dredging International
SOHAR Port and Freezone have signed an agreement with Dredging International NV – Earth Moving Worldwide LTD (DINV-EMW JV) for the development of Phase 1 of the SOHAR Port South Construction Package I. Totalling an investment of USD 24mn (approx. OMR 9.24mn), the agreement will see the development of the first 50 hectares of useable land within the new port expansion; which is expected to be fully completed by Q4 2018.

The Maersk liner vessel Maersk Honam, which was hit by a serious fire on 6 March, will reach anchorage outside the Jebel Ali Port (UAE) on Tuesday 24 April 2018. The fire broke out around 900 nautical miles southeast of Salalah, Oman, and remains under control. Firefighting activities were initiated by the Indian Coast Guard until vessels with special firefighting capabilities arrived at the scene.

Baltic Index Near 15-week High
The Baltic Exchange's main sea freight index, tracking rates for ships carrying dry bulk commodities, rose on Monday to near 15-week highs, boosted by rising rates for capesize vessels. The overall index, which factors in rates for capesize, panamax and supramax shipping vessels, was up 25 points, or about 2 percent, at 1,306 points, its highest since Jan. 10. The capesize index gained 94 points, or 4.9 percent and hit 2,009 points, its highest in 14 weeks.
