Fire-damaged MSC Flaminia Docks in Romania
After six weeks of waiting at Constanza/Romania, MSC FLAMINIA has put into the port of Constanza; cause of fire still not ascertained. MV MSC Flaminia caught fire on 14 July 2012, claiming three lives (two confirmed dead and one missing) and forcing the crew to abandon ship in the middle of the Atlantic. After the fire had been brought under control, the stricken container ship was towed to Germany and in March 2013, she departed Wilhelmshaven for Mangalia, Romania for repairs.

Bangladesh Yard to Build Tanzanian Ferry
Western Marine Shipyard to build a passenger-carrying catamaran ferry for the Tanzania Ministry of Transportation. The deal was signed by the Managing Director of Western Marine Shipyard Mr. Sakhawat Hossain and the Director of JGH Marine, Mr. Niels Holstein. (JGH Marine is the Danish Company which received notification from Tanzania of the contract award). The vessel will have a capacity for 300 passengers. The ship will be 38m in length with a service speed of 20 knots.

Maersk Tanker Fleet on Fuel-saving Retrofit Crusade
Maersk Tankers plan to spend up to $35m as it pushes ahead with a fuel saving retrofit programme. One of the company's "I-class" VLCCs is being fitted with fuel saving devices, iincluding Becker Mewis propeller ducts and propeller boss cap fins on a range of owned tankers. The programme includes screening and retrofitting around 70 tankers over the next two to three years, reports Carbon Positive.

Maersk Transpacific 7 Service Arrives to Miami
Maersk Line, the global containerized division of the A.P. Moller ā Maersk Group, added Port Miami to its Transpacific 7 (TP7) Service. The first call for the TP7 Service started today at PortMiami with the arrival of the Maersk Kristina, a 6,700 TEU (twenty foot equivalent unit) cargo vessel. The serviceās line up will include additional cargo vessels with a capacity of 8,700 TEUs. The South Florida Container Terminal Miami will handle the new service at their PortMiami cargo yard.
