Marlink Expands VSAT Coverage in the Indian Ocean
Marlink has added a new satellite to its global multi-band Sealink network, expanding its footprint in the Indian Ocean Region (IOR) and introducing even more Ku-band VSAT capacity to enable high-speed broadband connectivity for ships transiting southern routes between Asia and Africa, in addition to fishing vessels operating east of Africa’s coastline and out towards the Maldives and Seychelles. Marlink Expands in Japan
Satellite communication provider Marlink said its Tokyo office has relocated to new, larger premises as the company grows its Japan team to meet the needs of an expanding VSAT customer-base in the region. “The new location is over twice the size, which helps us to accommodate more field engineers, technical support and sales staff, in addition to enabling us to build a new service management function for better coordination and smoother operations towards the customer,” said Shinobu Suzuki, Marlink Japan.

Marlink and Radio Holland have concluded a partnership agreement whereby Marlink has acquired Radio Holland’s connectivity business. Marlink Buys Majority Stake in OmniAccess
Apax Partners backed Marlink said it has signed a definite agreement to acquire a majority stake in fellow maritime VSAT services firm OmniAccess. The transaction remains subject to customary regulatory approval and closing is expected in the first half of 2018. OmniAccess’ existing management team will remain unchanged and continue to keep a significant shareholding in the company. OmniAccess will remain a stand-alone company, functioning as the competence center for broadband connectivity solutions for the high-end superyacht and boutique cruise-line customers.

Marlink said it has migrated Aker BioMarine’s Antarctic krill harvester fleet support ship, La Manche, to Inmarsat’s Fleet Xpress service. According to Marlink, the upgrade gives Sealink C-band VSAT users more flexibility to add alternative VSAT frequencies to their network in order to ensure availability of high-speed critical business and operational applications globally.
