Navios Maritime Containers Acquires Boxship

Navios Maritime Containers, a growth vehicle dedicated to the container sector, announced that it has acquired the Navios Felicitas, a 2010-built, 4,360 TEU containership for a purchase price of USD 11.45 million. The vessel was delivered to Navios Containers’ fleet in December 2017. Navios Containers financed the acquisition of the vessel with cash on its balance sheet and $6.0 million of bank debt under one of its existing credit facilities. Following this acquisition, Navios Containers controls 21 vessels, totaling 88,820 TEU.

Global Ship Lease Extends TC with CMA CGM

Global Ship Lease, a containership charter owner, announced that it has agreed to an extension of its charter with CMA CGM for the GSL Tianjin, a 2005-built, 8,063 TEU containership. The vessel will be chartered for a period of eight to twelve months (at the charterer's option) at a fixed rate of $11,900 per day, commencing in direct continuation from its current charter on January 26, 2018. Ian Webber, Chief Executive Officer of Global Ship Lease, commented, "We are pleased to have secured this extension with CMA CGM for the continued employment of the GSL Tianjin.

Hanjin Wins $294M In Orders

Hanjin Heavy Industries won orders totaling $294 million to build 10 ships for a Dutch firm, a German firm and one other European company. Hanjin Heavy said in a statement that Dutch firm Vroon B.V. ordered two 1,600 teu containerships and two 30,000 dwt chemical ships, worth a total of $96 million. It said Germany's Rickmers Reederei GmbH & Cie KG had ordered four 1,200-teu containerships worth $78 million and one other European company had ordered two 5,600 teu containerships worth $120 million. Hanjin declined to give the name of the other European company. Officials said the company has received orders for 20 ships so far this year, including these 10 ships, and had reached its target for the year of $550 million worth of orders so far.

MOL Expands Container Fleet

Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, Ltd. has signed a deal for construction of four 20,000 TEU containerships with Samsung Heavy Industries. MOL also concluded an MOU for long-term chartering of two 20,000 TEU containerships with Shoei Kisen Kaisha, Ltd. The two containerships will be built at Imabari Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. The six vessels will be launched and delivered in 2017, and will serve the Asia-Europe service. The 20,000 TEU type is the world’s largest among delivered and on order containerships.

A new 20,150 TEU containership has captured the “world’s largest” title: MOL Triumph, the first in a series of new mega containerships for Japan’s Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, Ltd., (MOL) was named at Samsung Heavy Industries, Ltd.’s (SHI) Geoje, South Korea shipyard. MOL Triumph is the first of four 20,000 TEU class ultra-large container carriers ordered by MOL in February 2015 to be built by SHI for 2017 delivery. Hyundai Heavy to Build World’s Largest Containerships

Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI) announced the Company won a $700 million order for five 18,400 TEU containerships from China Shipping Container Lines (Hong Kong) Co., Ltd. The world’s largest containerships will feature an electronically-controlled main engine and two EcoBallast seawater treatment system. The electronically-controlled main engine will maximize fuel efficiency, and reduce noise, vibrations, and carbon emissions by automatically controlling fuel consumption to suit sailing speed and sea conditions.

Samsung Wins Containership Job

Samsung Heavy Industries Co. reportedly won a $240 million order from Germany's Hamburg Sud to build six 3,400-TEU containerships.

HHI Names 2 New Containerships in Ulsan

Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI), hailed the New Year by naming two 10,000 TEU containerships for a Greek shipping line, Oceanbulk Maritime SA. The naming ceremony was attended by Spyros Capralos, chief executive officer of Oceanbulk; Nicos Rescos, chief operating officer of Oceanbulk; Yoon Moon-kyoon, chief operating officer of HHI’s shipbuilding division; and 44 other guests at HHI’s yard in Ulsan. At the simultaneous naming ceremony, the vessels were named after the famous French and Spanish painters, Cezanne and Dali respectively.

Costamare Defers Newbuild Vessel Delivery

Athens-based containership owner Costamare Inc. pushes back 11,000-teu newbuildings into 2017 as it reports strong third quarter figures which topped Wall Street expectations. It has agreed to postpone the deliveries of the remaining four newbuilding 11,010 TEU containerships, ordered through the company’s joint venture with York Capital. The four vessels, three of which were scheduled to join the company’s fleet in October 2016, are now expected to be delivered from South Korean shipbuilder Hanjin Heavy Industries in the first quarter of 2017.

2,700 TEU Containership Launched at B&V

A 2,700 TEU containership built at Blohm+Voss, which belongs to ThyssenKrupp Marine Systems, was christened Cosco Panama. Godmother of the ship was Anja Berlien, wife of Dr. Olaf Berlien, Chairman of the Board of Directors at ThyssenKrupp Technologies AG. GEBAB (Gesellschaft für Konzeption und Betreuung privater Investitionen mbH, Meerbusch) is the ship’s owner; Maritime GmbH is the ship’s manager. Cosco Panama is particularly significant in that it is likely the last time a containership will be launched from the Blohm + Voss yard. ThyssenKrupp Marine Systems AG made the strategical decision to have Blohm + Voss concentrate on the construction of large-scale yachts and naval vessels.

Rickmers Ship Rescues 22

(Photo: Rickmers) The Rickmers-owned 5060 TEU containership Maersk Dhaka participated in rescue operations after the sinking of the Panamanian bulker Clinker Carrier off the Indian Coast close to Mumbai on July 4, 2007. The Maersk Dhaka was in a nearby position when the bulker issued a distress signal, and was requested by the local rescue coordination team to proceed to the casualty and to remain on scene as long as her assistance was necessary. After rescuing the 22 crew members of the sinking bulker, Maersk Dhaka was released and continued her voyage to Mumbai, where the castaways have disembarked.

CSBC to Build Two Containerships for Iseaco

Taiwan's CSBC Corp. inked a deal to build two 1,800 teu containerships for Iseaco Holdings of Singapore. The ships were reportedly ordered at a price of $25 million each.    Delivery is expectedfor Iseaco’s YL Singapore Shipping and YL Colombo Shipping during the first quarter of 2016.   Current shipbuilding projects underway at CSBC are twelve 1,800 teu vessels for SITC International, four 8,000 teu vessels for Evergreen and two 4,600 teu vessels for Yang Ming.

Third 14,000 TEU Container Joins Seaspan

Hong Kong-based owner and operator of containerships Seaspan Corporation has taken delivery of a 14,000 TEU containership, the YM Winner. The new ship, which was constructed at Hyundai Heavy Industries Co., Ltd., is Seaspan’s third 14,000 TEU SAVER design containership and fourth delivery in 2015. The YM Winner will commence a ten-year, fixed-rate time charter with Yang Ming Marine Transport Corp. The ship is the third of a total of eight 14000 TEU SAVER design vessels to be chartered by Seaspan to Yang Ming. The delivery of the YM Winner expands the Company's operating fleet to 81 vessels.

Seaspan Takes Delivery of New Containership

Seaspan Corporation (SSW) has accepted delivery of a 14000 TEU containership, the YM Wellhead. The new containership, which was constructed at Hyundai Heavy Industries Co., Ltd., is Seaspan's second 14000 TEU SAVER design containership and third delivery in 2015. The YM Wellhead will commence a ten-year, fixed-rate time charter with Yang Ming Marine Transport Corp. (Yang Ming). Yang Ming may extend the charter for up to an additional two years. The ship is the second of a total of eight 14000 TEU SAVER design vessels to be chartered by Seaspan to Yang Ming.

Danaos Adds Containership to Fleet

Danaos Corporation, a containership owner, announces  it has taken delivery of one more 13,100 containership, the HYUNDAI SPEED, expanding its operational fleet to a total of 63 containerships aggregating 349,949 TEU. The Company expects delivery of its last 13,100 TEU vessel by the end of June, at which point its current new building program will be completed. The HYUNDAI SPEED, built at Hyundai Samho Heavy Industries Co. Ltd, has a carrying capacity of 13,100 TEU, is 366 meters long, 48.2 meters wide and has a speed of 24.70 knots. The vessel has already commenced its 12-year time charter with an expected annualized EBITDA run-rate contribution of approximately $18.8 mil.

Costamare Adds Three Vessels

Costamare accepted delivery of three second hand vessels during the last quarter ended June 30, 2017, said Gregory Zikos, Chief Financial Officer of Costamare. In a press statement he said that the vessels have been chartered for periods ranging from 5 to 7 years. "During the quarter we entered into debt financing agreements for two of them and we are into discussions regarding the debt finance of the third ship. As of today all of our new building program is fully funded with remaining equity commitments amounting to only US $ 2 million, due in 2018," he added.

HHI Names World’s Largest Containership

The world’s largest containership was named at a ceremony held by builder Hyundai Heavy Industries Co., Ltd. (HHI) this week. The ship, named CSCL Globe, is the first of five 19,000 TEU containerships for China Shipping Container Lines (CSCL), and takes the title of world’s largest containership from Maersk Line’s 18,000 teu Triple E class vessels. Measuring 400 meters in length, 58.6 meters in width and 30.5 meters in depth, CSCL Globe is as large as four soccer fields. She will be deployed on the Asia-Europe trade loop after being handed over to the owner within this month.

Hyundai Heavy Industries Co., Ltd. (HHI) has built and delivered the world’s largest containership, the first of five 19,000 TEU containerships ordered from China Shipping Container Lines (CSCL) in May 2013. The first containership in the series was named CSCL Globe, and it measures 1312.3 ft. (400 m) x 192.3 ft. (58.6 m) wide with a 100 ft. (30.5 m) depth. Seaspan Accepts Delivery of 4,600-TEU Containership

Seaspan Corporation has announced  that it accepted delivery of a 4,600-TEU containership, the MOL Efficiency. The containership was constructed by Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Ltd. in 2003 and expands the Company's operating fleet to 71 vessels. The MOL Efficiency is on charter to Mitsui O.S.K. Lines Ltd. (MOL) under a two-year, fixed-rate time charter. The ship is the sixth of a total of eight vessels to be chartered by Seaspan to MOL.  

Hyundai Wins Bulker, Containership $400M Deal

Hyundai Heavy Industries Co. won $400 million in orders from Greece to build five containerships and four bulk carriers. Hyundai Heavy said the 5,500 TEU containerships will be delivered to Greece's Costamare Shipping Co. between late 2000 and the first half of 2001. The bulk carriers, all 75,000-gt class, are scheduled for delivery to Arcadia Shipmanagement Co. of Greece by the end of 2001. Hyundai Heavy said with the orders from Greece its shipbuilding orders this year rose to $2.5 billion and its backlog orders stands at $6 billion.

Danaos Upgrades Vessel Sizes

Danaos Corporation agreed with China Shipbuilding Trading Company Limited the upgrading of its earlier order for four 6,800 TEU containerships to four 8,400 TEU vessels and signed the amendments to the relevant shipbuilding contracts. These vessels will be built by the Shanghai Jiangnan Changxing Heavy Industry Company Limited and are expected to be delivered to Danaos during 2010. The total capital expenditure commitment for this project is in the region of $500 million and is expected be financed by existing credit facilities and own funds according to the work in progress schedule under the specific terms of the shipbuilding contracts.

Danaos Corporation Adds One More 8,530 TEU Containership to its Fleet.   Danaos Corporation, an international owner of containerships, announced that on October 26, 2011, it took delivery of one more newly built containership, the CMA CGM BIANCA, expanding its operational fleet to a total of 58 containerships aggregating 282,619 TEU. The CMA CGM BIANCA, built at Shanghai Jiangnan Changxing Heavy Industry, has a carrying capacity of 8,530 TEU, is 335 meters long, 42.8 meters wide and has a speed of 25.80 knots. The CMA CGM BIANCA has commenced its 12-year time charter at a fixed charter rate immediately upon delivery.
