Nordic American Tankers Signs TC with Cepsa

Nordic American Tankers has announced that it entered into an one-year term charter with the major Spanish oil company Cepsa for a ship. The company says  is the 2004 built Nordic Castor is expected to be delivered on the time charter in late February for a contract of up to 15 months. "She is expected to be delivered on the time charter late February, subject to a satisfactory inspection in next discharge port. The fact that NAT has only one million barrel suezmax ships allows us to achieve economies of scale. The agreed rate secures a good cash flow," said a company statement.

NLS Welcomes Three New Vessels

On February 2, Neo Logistic Services baptized three new inland vessels of the Neo Kemp type (32/48 TEU). The company now owns 13 of these vessels that are used on the smaller waterways. Each of them can carry 16,000 boxes on a year's basis. Currently there are two additional units being built, and another three are on order.

Minoan Lines Subsidiary Orders Ferries

Minoan Lines subsidiary Minoan Flying Dolphins reportedly ordered three new high speed ferries from Australia's Austal Ships.

L&T Bags Offshore Contract from ONGC

L&T Hydrocarbon Engineering (LTHE), a wholly-owned subsidiary of Larsen & Toubro, has signed an offshore contract for ‘Bassein Development 3 Well Platform & Pipeline Project’ with Oil & Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC). Larsen and Toubro stated in a stock exchange announcement that the contract is valued at approximately 1,483 crores (approximately 229 Million USD). The order, won against International Competitive Bidding, encompasses ‘EPCIC’ – Engineering, Procurement, Construction, Installation and Commissioning - for the project.

MSC Develops Business in French Port

MSC develops business with terminal operators Haropa, in the Port of Le Havre. with the launch of 3 new container feeder shipping services. MSC will start a significant phase of business development at their new terminal in the port of Le Havre, by receiving the first vessel for three new feeder services. By the end of January, 2013, MSC will offer three new weekly feeder services via Le Havre. Operated by vessels of a unit capacity of 1,600 TEU*, the services will raise the number of weekly maritime calls by the shipping company in Le Havre to 13.

Steel Cut for First Virgin Voyages Cruise Ship

A steel cutting ceremony has signaled the start of construction for the first of three new cruise ships for the Virgin Group’s new cruise line, Virgin Voyages. The three new ships are being built by Fincantieri at its shipyard in Genoa, Italy for scheduled deliveries in 2020, 2021 and 2022 respectively. The combined order value is about 2 billion euros. Each ship will weigh about 110,000 gross tons, be 278 meters long and 38 wide. The ships will feature over 1,400 guest cabins that can host more than 2,700 passengers, accompanied by 1,150 crew members on board.

Vard to Negotiate for Three Coast Guard Vessels for Norway

Ship designer and builder Vard Holdings Limited announced that it has been invited to continue negotiations for the construction of three new vessels for the Norwegian Coast Guard. The Norwegian Government had originally announced plans for the construction of three new Coast Guard vessels in September 2016. Following review of offers from three competing yards, Vard Langsten has now been selected to continue negotiations. If the negotiations are successful, according to the Government’s timetable, the project shall be tabled for approval by the Norwegian Parliament in 2018. Delivery of the first vessel would be in 2022.

Four Groups to Compete for Naval Contract

The Ottowa Business Journal has reported that four consortia have been selected to bid on a $2.9 billion contract to supply three new joint support ships to the Canadian Forces, the first in a week-long series of announcements by the Harper government of new equipment for Canada's sailors, soldiers and airmen. Irving Shipbuilding, BAE Systems (Project) Limited (BAE Systems Naval Ships), ThyssenKrupp Marine Systems AG and SNC-Lavalin Profac Inc will bid on the project definition phase---including preliminary ship design, project implementation plans, and an in-service support plan. Two groups will then be awarded contracts worth $12.5 million each for the project definition phase, and will compete for the final implementation contract.

Bender Wins ATB Contract

Bender Shipbuilding & Repair Co., Inc signed a contract with Maritrans Inc. to build three new articulated tug-barge units, each having a carrying capacity of 335,000 barrels. Each barge will be connected to a 12,000 hp tugboat using the Intercon connection system. Construction of the three new vessels will take place in Mobile, Alabama and at its affiliated company, the Tampa Bay Shipbuilding & Repair Company. Maritrans estimates that the total cost of construction (including owner furnished equipment) will be approximately $77.5 million for each tug-barge unit. Bender Shipbuilding expects to deliver the first unit in October of 2007, with the remaining two vessels expected to be delivered seven months apart in May and December of 2008, respectively.

Mustang Marine Receives $5.3m Pilot Boat Order

Workboat and marine energy device builder Mustang Marine has won a $5.34m contract to construct three new pilot boats for the Port of Milford Haven. The Pembroke Dock-based company is now looking to recruit new workers locally in a number of skilled positions to meet an increased demand for its services, having already increased the size of its workforce to 54 people over the last nine months. The new contact will see Mustang build three 19m pilot boats at its deep-water facility at Pembroke Dock.

Crude Flows Again At Ceyhan

Iraqi crude oil exports were flowing again at the Turkish port of Ceyhan, where the second vessel this year was finishing lifting and three new cargoes were expected to turn up soon, industry sources said. The sources said the Marina M, which recently replaced the earlier chartered Seadancer, has just about finished lifting one million barrels of Kirkuk crude and the two million barrel Amazon Falcon is already berthed and waiting. Three new vessels are also expected before month's end, with the one-million-barrel Crudesky due to arrive on January 27, and two very large crude carriers (VLCCs) -- the Orient Tiger and the Front Champion -- seen on the 28th and 29th, the sources said.

Wärtsilä Wins Brazil Liftboat Genset & Propulsion Orders

Wärtsilä’s success in Brazilian drill ship programme continues with latest genset and propulsion order for three new liftboats. This latest in a series of contracts won by Wärtsilä is to supply complete mechanical packages, comprising the generating sets and thrusters, for three new drill ships to be built by Brazilian shipyard ECOVIX. The vessels will be employed in Brazil’s pre-salt offshore oil fields. The three new drill ships will each be powered by six Wärtsilä 32 generating sets and will feature six Wärtsilä underwater de-mountable thrusters.

Matson Increases Neighbor Island Barge Capacity

Matson, Inc. said its subsidiary Matson Navigation Company, Inc. has replaced one of its three barges dedicated to serving Hawaii's neighbor island ports with a newer, larger barge that will improve service levels. The container barge Columbia, to be renamed Mauna Loa in honor of the barge it replaces, is now Matson's largest barge. At 360 feet long, with a beam (width) of 100 feet and cargo carrying capacity of 12,600 tons or 500 TEU, it is 12 feet longer and 40 feet wider than the barge it replaces, with the capacity to carry 180 more TEU or nearly 8,000 tons more cargo. Built in 2012 by Gunderson Marine and classified as a Deck Cargo Barge with approximately 33,000 square feet of deck cargo space, the vessel's design enables swifter and more fuel efficient transits.

Minoan Flying Dolphins To Order Three Ferries

Minoan Lines subsidiary Minoan Flying Dolphins will reportedly order three more high speed ferries at a cost of $150 million, bringing its total newbuildings to eight. The three new ferries will have a cruising speed of 30 knots and are expected to be delivered in Summer 2001, doubling the company's fleet of high speed ferries. Each of the ferries will be 459 ft. (140 m) long and have a capacity of 1,800 passengers and 250 cars, or 40 trucks and 100 cars.

IPS Delivers for Reinauer

The Marine Division of Industrial Power Systems has completed ABS inspections, functional testing, and delivery of the Main and Emergency Switchboards for the Reinauer Transportation ATB Tug, Meredith C. Reinauer. The Meredith C is the latest of three new tug and barge combinations built by Alabama Shipyard and Atlantic Marine. IPS Marine has provided the switchboards for all three projects.

Northrop Grumman U.S. Navy Destroyer Contract

Northrop Grumman Corporation's Sperry Marine business unit won contracts to supply the U.S. Navy with steering systems for three new USS Arleigh Burke DDG 51-class guided missile destroyers. Northrop Grumman Ship Systems issued one contract, for DDG 107. Bath Iron Works, a wholly owned subsidiary of General Dynamics, issued contracts for vessels DDG 108 and 109. The three contracts have a combined value of $12.5 million.

Crowley to Christen Barge

On July 28, Crowley Maritime Corporation will christen the 455-2, the second of three new Heavy Lift 455 series deck barges being built to handle project work for the offshore energy industry - primarily in the Gulf of Mexico. The 455-2 is one of three 400 x 105-ft.-wide deck barges to be built at Gunderson Marine's shipyard in Portland, Oregon. The media is invited to attend this christening, which will feature the traditional breaking of a champagne bottle against the hull and the subsequent launch and spectacular splashdown into the Willamette River.

FirstWave/Newpark Awarded Trio Of Contracts

Providing ship repair, conversion, new construction and related services for barges and other vessels, FirstWave/Newpark Shipbuilding has garnered three new contracts. Pleiades Shipping Agents awarded the company for collision damage repair of the 55,000-dwt vessel, MT Nestos. The ship, which sustained damage on its port side near the bow and just above the waterline, underwent repairs at the company’s East Pelican Island facility.

North Florida Shipyards Awarded MarAd Contract

American Overseas Marine Corporation (AMSEA), on behalf of MarAd, has granted North Florida Shipyards (Jacksonville), a contract to modify deck spaces of M/V Cape Wrath. With work encompassing the removal of six movable decks, and one fixed deck, three new fixed decks will be fabricated by the yard's affiliate - North Florida Shipbuilding - and installed in the cargo spaces. Additional modifications will be performed on fire stations, vent systems, lighting and hydraulic systems to serve the new deck areas.

New and amended TSSs

The IMO issued a Circular announcing three new and two amended traffic separation schemes (TSSs). The new TSSs are (1) “Off Ra’s al kuh”; (2) Approaches to the Port of Ra’s al Khafji”; and (3) “in the Adriatic Sea”. The amended TSSs are (a) Between Korsoer and Sprogoe” and (b) “In the Singapore Strait”. (HK Law)
