VMS To Christen Halter-Built ATB

Crowley Maritime's Vessel Management Services, Inc., will christen the first of four Articulated Tug-Barge (ATB) tank vessels this year in New Orleans on Thursday, April 25. The vessels to be christened are the 9,280-hp tug Sea Reliance and the 155,000-barrel barge 550-1. Intrepid Ship Management, a subsidiary of Marine Transport Lines, will charter the Halter Marine-built ATB from Vessel Management Services and operate it. Marine Transport is a Crowley subsidiary and part of its Contract services segment. "We are looking forward to christening and putting these exceptional new vessels into service for our customer," said Tom Crowley Jr., Chairman, President and CEO of Crowley Maritime.

Maersk Line, Limited Seeks to Streamline Operations

Maersk Line, Limited (MLL) asked the U.S. Maritime Administration to confirm its eligibility as a Maritime Security Program (MSP) contractor under existing law so the company can more effectively and efficiently operate additional vessels under MSP. This action would increase from 4 to 19 the number of vessels currently under contract to the Maritime Administration. Under its operating contracts with Maersk Line, Limited, U.S. Ship Management, Inc. (USSM) has agreed to transfer direct operation of the vessels in question to Maersk should MLL elect to become the MSP contractor. Those contracts were reviewed and approved by the Maritime Administration in 1999. Under the new arrangement, the vessels will continue to be owned by the same "Section 2" U.S.

OMM Reports Wind Farm Guard Vessel Business Boom

UK-based Offshore Marine Management (OMM) say that its Guard Vessels business has shown a strong performance in 2013 with 4,728 vessel management days recorded and a number of key industry relationships forged. The company informs it has been working closely with its vessel partner has provided guard vessels for a number of high profile wind farm interconnectors, including Borwin 2, Helwin 1, Dolwin 1 and Sylwin 1. This has allowed Offshore Marine Management (OMM) to build strong relationships with TenneT, Prysmian, ABB and EMAS including other market leaders.

Arlington Tankers Exercises Four Options

Stena's exercise of the one-year options for the Panamax tanker, Stena Companion, and for the Product tanker, Stena Concord, extends the terms of the charters for these vessels to November 10, 2009. Stena continues to have the option to extend these charters on a vessel-by-vessel basis for two additional one-year terms. With respect to the Stena Companion, effective November 11, 2008, the basic charter rate will increase to $18,639 per day for a guaranteed 360 days per year and the fixed vessel management fee will increase to $6,989 per day through November 10, 2009. Vessel Management Services Christens New ATB Tank Vessel

Vessel Management Services, Inc., a Crowley Maritime Corporation subsidiary and part of its corporate services segment, Friday christened the third of four Articulated Tug-Barge (ATB) tank vessels that the company will take delivery of this year. were built by The Manitowoc Company, Inc. At ceremonies held at the Bay Shipbuilding Company in Sturgeon Bay, Wis, Molly Crowley, a director on Crowley's board, christened the tug. Afterwards, guests attended a reception and celebratory luncheon at The Stone Harbor Resort. Over 100 people braved the cold, rain and snow to attend the christening ceremony, which has become a tradition in the maritime industry as new vessels enter service.

VT Halter Wins $254m Contract

VT Halter Marine won a contract to build three 330,000-barrel tank barges for Crowley Maritime Corporation's subsidiary, Vessel Management Services Inc. The vessels, which include the cost of owner-furnished equipment, are valued at approximately $254m. They are the largest in Crowley Maritime's history and the fastest in their class. VT Halter Marine is the US operations of ST Engineering's marine arm, Singapore Technologies Marine Ltd (ST Marine). VT Halter Marine currently has three contracts with Vessel Management Services Inc. to build the tugs and 185,000-barrel barges for 10 Articulated Tug Barge (ATB) units, at the total value of approximately $515m. This latest contract will bring the total contractual value with Vessel Management Services to $769m.

VT Halter Marine Delivers Final ATB to Crowley

VT Halter Marine, Inc. (VT Halter Marine), a subsidiary of VT Systems, Inc. (VT Systems), announced the delivery of the final in a series of ten 185,000-barrel articulated tug barge (ATB) units built for Crowley Maritime Corporation’s subsidiary, Vessel Management Services, Inc. (Vessel Management Services). Since construction of the first unit in 2005, all ten 185,000-barrel barges have been built at VT Halter Marine’s Pascagoula Operations while the 9,700-hp tugs were built at its Moss Point Marine Operations.

Kongsberg Upgrades Software for Norden

Kongsberg Maritime has delivered new fleet and vessel management functionality through a recent customized software update across Dampskibsselskabet NORDEN A/S’ fleet and shore offices. The software roll-out took place during January 2016 and included updates to vessel and shore based modules covering maintenance, spare parts, information sharing, procurement and budgeting. The updated software was developed in close co-operation with NORDEN, an independent Danish shipping company operating a large global fleet of dry cargo vessels and product tankers.

Crowley to Christen its Newest ATB This Friday

Vessel Management Services, Inc., a Crowley Maritime Corporation subsidiary and part of its corporate services segment, will christen its newest Articulated Tug-Barge (ATB) tank vessel this Friday in Sturgeon Bay, Wis. such vessels the company will take delivery of this year. The ceremony will be held at the Bay Shipbuilding Company at 11 a.m. christen the Ocean Reliance. and operate it. Marine Transport is a Crowley subsidiary and part of its oil and chemical distribution and transportation segment. "We are looking forward to placing this new ATB into service with our other ATBs completed earlier this year," said Tom Crowley Jr., Chairman, President and CEO of Crowley Maritime. Already in service are the Sea Reliance and barge 550-1, and the Sound Reliance and barge 550-2.

Crowley Marine Services Accepts Delivery of Tan'Erliq

Crowley Marine Services received delivery of Tan'erliq - the second of two new 10,192 hp tractor tugs from Crowley Maritime Corporation subsidiary, Vessel Management Services. Measuring 155 ft. in length, Tan'erliq and sister vessel Nanuq are the largest and strongest of the cycloidal tugs. The tugs, which together form the Prince William Sound Class, have specifically designed and developed form CMS under contract with Alyeska Pipeline Service Company for tanker escort and spill response operations in Valdez Harbor and Prince William Sound, Alaska.

MLL Aligns Management Structure

Maersk Line, Limited (MLL) has announced a realignment of its Senior Management Team structure to serve clients and grow its position in target markets. William J. (Bill) Kenwell will assume the title of Senior Vice President & Chief Commercial Officer with responsibility for leading commercial activities and relationships with key government agencies. Reporting to Kenwell will be MLL’s U.S.-flag Liner and Integrated Defense Logistics business units as well as all Marketing and Proposal activities. Kenwell will report to MLL’s President and Chief Executive Officer, John Reinhart. All of MLL’s maritime-related business units will transfer reporting to Steve Carmel, Senior Vice President, Maritime Services.

At ceremonies held on the Riverwalk at the New Orleans Hilton, Christine Sande Crowley, wife of Tom Crowley Jr., Chairman, President and CEO of Crowley Maritime, christened the Sea Reliance, and her mother, Linda Engle Sande, christened barge 550-1. Intrepid Ship Management, a subsidiary of Marine Transport Lines, will charter the Halter Marine-built ATB from Vessel Management Services and operate it. Marine Transport is a Crowley subsidiary and part of its contract services segment.

Jeffboat Names Herre As President & COO

Robert P. Herre has been appointed as president and COO of Jeffboat LLC, a subsidiary of American Commercial Lines. Herre, who will assume his new position on September 1, 2001 will succeed Robert W. Greene III, who plans to retire. Herre joined ACL 10 years ago as manager of Jeffboat's Engineering Department. Since then, he has served in a variety of positions for the company, most recently as vice president of Vessel Management for ACL.

MARAD Approves Title XI Loan Guarantee

The Maritime Administration has approved a $346,129,000 Title XI guarantee to Vessel Management Services, Inc., a wholly-owned subsidiary of Crowley Holdings, Inc., for the construction of three 330,000 barrel double hull tug/barge units.  VT Halter Marine, Inc. in Gulfport, Mississippi is constructing the barges and Dakota Creek Industries in Anacortes, Washington has been retained to build the tugs.  The Title XI Loan Guarantee program provides funding to promote the growth and modernization of U.S. shipyards and the U.S. merchant marine.  

New Suite Simplifies Vessel Documentation

Ocean Time Marine informs it has added to its suite of safety management tools with a new vessel content management system, the Ocean Time Marine Dashboard and a suite of paperless safety document packs. These tools aim to provide simplified administration for vessel management delivering greater support and cost-savings for captains and crew on board and ashore, Ocean Time Marine said. In response to the marine industry’s need for an easier way to store and manage vessel documentation, Ocean Time Marine developed the Dashboard.

Collar Appointed Vice President, Special Projects

Crowley Maritime Corporation veteran Steve Collar has joined Marine Transport Corporation as Vice President, Special Projects effective July 1. He is domiciled in Marine Transport's Weehawken, NJ, headquarters and reports to Jeff Miller, Vice President, Chartering. Crowley acquired Marine Transport, a U.S.-based supplier of chemical parcel transportation, refined petroleum transportation, crude oil lightering, and ship management, in February. Collar, most recently Director of Special Projects for Crowley's Vessel Management Services subsidiary, will be responsible for helping Marine Transport and its subsidiary companies develop and market Marine Transport's fleet renewal and expansion projects, and will commercially manage selected vessels.

Earlier this year, Vessel Management Services, Inc. christened the first of four Articulated Tug-Barge (ATB) tank vessels that the company took in 2002, the 9,280 hp-tug Sea Reliance and 155,000-barrel barge 550-1, built by Halter Marine. The barge 550-1 was built at Halter's Port Bienville shipyard in Pearlington, Miss., and the Sea Reliance at its Moss Point Marine shipyard, in Escatawpa, Miss.

Crowley Marine Services Takes Delivery of First of Two 153 ft. Tugs

Crowley Marine Services (CMS) took delivery of Nanuq, the first of two 153-ft., 10,192 hp enhanced tractor tugs from Crowley Maritime Corp. subsidiary Vessel Management Services. Nanuq and her sister vessel Tan'erliq have been specially designed and developed for CMS under contract with Alyeska Pipeline Service Company for tanker escort operations in Valdez Harbor and Prince William Sound, Alaska. Because of the intended service environment, these vessels were designed to demanding specifications as the most powerful cycloidal propulsion tugs ever built, capable of a bollard pull of 208,000 lbs., and a vessel speed of 14.5 knots. In sea trials, the vessel was found to deliver in excess of 210,000 lbs. of bollard pull and a top vessel speed of just under 16 knots.
