DFDS Orders Two Large RoRos from China
Northern European shipping and logistics company DFDS said it has ordered another pair of large ro-ro ships from the Jinling Shipyard, doubling its order placed last year at the Chinese yard. DFDS signed a contract with Jinling in 2016 for the construction of two ro-ro vessels, each with 6,700 lane meter load capacity and space for 450 trailers. Now the company has ordered another two of these ships ā its largest ever ā to service freight customers across the North Sea from 2019 and 2020.

Classification society ClassNK released a new longitudinal strength assessments software āPrimeShip-HULL(Rules)/PartC15ā as part of its prescriptive calculation suite āPrimeShip-HULL(Rules)ā. For ensuring further safety and streamlining structural design of ships, ClassNK issued amendments for Chapter 15, Part C of its Rules for the Survey and Construction of Steel Ships relevant to the longitudinal strength in June 2017.
Norsafe Secures $23 mln in Contracts
Norsafe reported that it has secured more than 200 million NOK ($23.6 million) in LSA contracts that have been put out to tender so far this year. Matsuyama Welcomes First Panamax Coal Carrier
Japanās port of Matsuyama welcomed NYK-operated M/V Nord Neptune, the first panamax coal carrier to visit the port, on June 10, 2017. The Ehime prefectural government and the Shikoku Regional Development Bureau of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism recently completed an international logistics terminal project to reconstruct the port by deepening the berth to 13 meters. World's Largest Hybrid Ferry gets Rolls-Royce Power
Rolls-Royce announced that it received an order for four B33:45L diesel engines to power the worldās largest hybrid ferry being built for the Norwegian cruise and transport company Color Line. The ferry, designed by Fosen and to be built at Ulstein Verft in Norway, is due for completion by the summer of 2019 and is scheduled to operate on the crossing between Sandefjord in Norway and Strømstad in Sweden. The new Color Line ferry will be a plug-in hybrid combining diesel and electrical power.
