HD KSOE Enlists GTT for Tank Design of New LNG Carrier

GTT has secured an order from HD Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering (HD KSOE) for the tank design of a new liquefied natural gas (LNG) carrier.The LNG carrier will be built by the shipyard Hyundai Samho Heavy Industries (HSHI) on behalf of the ship-owner Hyundai Glovis.With a total capacity of 174,000 m3, the vessel’s cryogenic tanks will be fitted with the Mark III Flex membrane containment system, a technology developed by GTT.Delivery of the vessel is scheduled for the fourth quarter of 2028.

FMC Collects $1,350,000 in Penalty Payments

The Federal Maritime Commission (FMC or Commission) investigates and negotiates settlements and informal compromises of civil penalties in relation to potential violations of the Shipping Act and Commission regulations. Recently, the Commission completed two compromise agreements recovering a total of $1,350,000 in civil penalties. The agreements were reached with a vessel-operating common carrier (VOCC) and a non-vessel-operating common carrier (NVOCC).One compromise agreement was reached with Hyundai Glovis, Co. Ltd.

ABS grants AiP for HD KSOE's Hydrogen Vacuum Insulation System

HD Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering (HD KSOE) has received ABS approval in principle (AIP) for a tank design that enables large-scale hydrogen transport and storage.The vacuum insulation system from HD KSOE is designed to reduce the time required to create a vacuum in large tanks, essential for transportation. The new technology allows maintaining a vacuum state at –253ā„ƒ, which KSOE says enables safer and loss-free transport of large quantities of liquid hydrogen.ABS completed design reviews based on class and statutory requirements.

Lloyd's Register (LR) has awarded Approval in Principle (AiP) to HD Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering (HD KSOE) for its pioneering vacuum-insulated large-scale liquid hydrogen (LHā‚‚) tank system. The successful testing of a large-scale vacuum chamber for this AiP marked the world’s first technical validation of large-scale LHā‚‚ tank insulation design.The vacuum insulation system addresses some of the most pressing challenges of using hydrogen in the maritime industry: the scalability of liquefied hydrogen storage and transportation of the fuel, says LR.

Containerships owner/operator Seaspan Corporation signaled its entry into the car carrier segment in confirming a deal to order a series of new pure car and truck carriers (PCTC) in partnership with Hyundai Glovis (Glovis).The 10,800 CEU are the largest PCTCs under development to date. Norway Wealth Fund Revises Ship Scrapping Status of Two Companies
