Schottel to Power 'Wind of Hope'

Schottel will provide a range of propulsion systems for Louis Dreyfus Armateurs's second wind farm service operation vessel (SOV) the Wind of Hope.The new walk-to-work vessel, a sister vessel to the Wind of Change SOV, is currently under construction at Cemre shipyard in Turkey and will enter service operating under a long-term contract with Ørsted.The propulsion system of the vessel designed by Salt Ship Design vessel is powered by four diesel generators, which drive the electric motors of the Schottel propulsion package.

Grain Trade Boosts Brazil's Itaqui Port

Brazil's Itaqui port, the country's closest deepwater gateway to the Panama Canal, has projected a rise in 2017 shipping volumes thanks to a record grain harvest and development of a new northern farming frontier. Most of Itaqui's export cargo arrives by train instead of roads. It is the deepest public port in Brazil, and its travel time to Europe and North America is seven days shorter than from rivals in the South. Itaqui can handle minerals, grains, fertilizers, fuel and woodpulp consignments.

Brazilian Grain Producers Explore Increased Use of Panama Canal

Brazilian farmers in top soy state Mato Grosso signed a memorandum of understanding with the Panama Canal Authority to evaluate ways to cut transportation costs and boost Brazilian grain volumes using the waterway, the authority's chief administrator said. The canal's administration is looking to increase its participation in rising Brazilian grain exports, since a large part of grain trade expansion in Brazil is via new terminals in the northern part of the country, which are closer to the canal.

Norwegian shipowner Ocean Yield ASA took delivery of newly-built handysize dry bulk vessel "La Fresnais" and "Interlink Amenity". In press release, Ocean Yield said that it took the delivery of the 2018 built handysize dry bulk vessel "La Fresnais" on April 10. Upon delivery the vessel commenced a 12 years' bareboat charter to a company owned and guaranteed by Louis Dreyfus Armateurs Group (LDA). LDA is a French family group engaged in maritime transportation and services and founded more than 160 years ago.
