Dutch dredging and marine services giant Boskalis has acquired the U.S.-based maritime emergency response specialist Ardent Americas.Ardent, created by the 2015 merger of salvage divisions of Svitzer and Crowley, specializes in emergency preparedness and response, wreck removals, subsea services and decommissioning for the offshore oil and gas industry. Svitzer Gets 10-Year Contract Extension with Sakhalin Energy Investment

Svitzer, the towage operator that is part of Maersk, announced a 10-year extension of its marine service contract with Sakhalin Energy Investment Company Ltd., a consortium set up to develop and manage the Sakhalin-II project, aimed at producing and exporting oil and liquefied gas.Svitzer has been providing towage services to the Sakhalin-II project since 2007, and the extension comes into effect in November 2022 to support the mooring of more than 1,800 gas carriers with a vessel fleet of four Robert Allen ice-breaking tugs and two mooring boats.

Master Fined for Delayed Engine Failure Reporting

A tanker captain has been convicted and fined for failing to immediately alert Australian authorities of a main engine breakdown in 2019.On January 31, 2019, the tanker Asphalt Spirit suffered a main engine breakdown and began drifting 30 kilometers northeast of Point Lookout on North Stradbroke Island while carrying 14,000 tonnes of asphalt from from Korea to Australia.The ship’s master reported the incident via email to the Australian Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA) just after 10 p.m.

Svitzer Mercurius Joins Southampton Fleet

Svitzer has announced the purchase of the Dutch tugboat Mercurius, which has been renamed to Svitzer Mercurius and reflagged to the UK.The tug will be deployed in the Port of Southampton, where the tug increases the company’s fleet in Southampton to six vessels with a collective bollard pull of 415 tons.Built by Damen in 2014, the ASD 3212 tugboat has a strong bollard pull of 82 tons and a top speed of 14 knots, powered by two main and two auxiliary engines supplied by Caterpillar.

Rolls-Royce Inks Tug Deal with Svitzer

Rolls-Royce has signed a 10-year service agreement with the global towage and marine services operator  Svitzer covering spare parts deliveries in six countries for a fleet of 17 tugs powered by MTU-brand Series 4000 engines.The agreement ‚Äď named Global Frame Value Care Agreement (VCA) ‚Äď covers spare parts deliveries in 6 countries.In VCA, the cost of maintenance services is being tied to the engine up-time. This is the first maintenance contract of its kind to be signed by Svitzer.

MAN Power for Svitzer Ice-Breaking Tugs

MAN Energy Solutions won the contract to supply the main propulsion engines for two new ice-breaking ASD tugs, to be operated by Svitzer in the Scandanavian region. Svitzer Orders Two Icebreaking Tugs

Global towage operator Svitzer said it has signed a new deal with Turkish shipbuilder Med Marine for two new 30-meter ice class tugs expected to be delivered in the fourth quarter of 2020 and first quarter of 2021. The vessels will join Svitzer‚Äôs 30-strong fleet of towage vessels in Scandinavia and Germany The tugs have been custom designed to fit Svitzer‚Äôs requirements across its Scandinavian operations. The new TundRA 3000 designs were created by Canadian naval architecture firm Robert Allan Ltd and have Finnish-Swedish ice class 1A status, giving them icebreaking capabilities.

Svitzer intends to sell its Portuguese marine operations to Pioneiro do Rio, Serviços Maritimos, Lda., a company which has Rui Cruz, the current managing director of Svitzer Portugal, among its owners.The operation in Portugal has faced declining volumes and the synergy between the Portuguese ports and Svitzer‚Äôs remaining European and global portfolio has proven limited.
