Sinking of the El Faro Subject of NTSB Meeting
The NTSB is scheduled to meet Dec. 12, 2017, to determine the probable cause of the Oct. 1, 2015, sinking of the U.S. flagged cargo ship El Faro. The 790-foot vessel set sail from Jacksonville, Florida, on a voyage to San Juan, Puerto Rico, Sept. 29, 2015, and sank about 34 hours later near the eye of Hurricane Joaquin. All 33 crewmembers aboard the ship perished in the accident. The NTSB launched an investigation as soon as the sinking was confirmed and with assistance from the U.S.

Two Persons Missing After Sampan Capsized in Singapore
At about 1930 hours on 10 December 2017, the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) was informed by Johor’s Maritime Rescue Sub Centre that two men had been reported to be missing after their sampan capsized earlier at about 1630 hours. The incident had occurred 0.8 nautical miles southeast of Pedra Branca, the co-ordinates being latitude 01˚ 19.25’N and longitude 104˚ 24.97’E, within the Singapore Maritime Search and Rescue Region (MSRR).

FSL Trust Sells Vessel for USD 6.2mln to Reduce Debt
Singapore's First Ship Lease (FSL) Trust said that it has sold containership, FSL Santos for $6.2 million to reduce its debt service requirements for the fourth quarter. FSL Santos is a German-built, 1,221 TEU vessel built in 2003 that has been deployed in the Hanse Containership Pool. The net proceeds from this Disposal will be applied in full to the Trust's outstanding loan facility and the Trust will record a gain on disposal of approximately US$800,000 for 4Q2017.
Fleet Of Babycapes Is Growing: Oldendorff
Oldendorff Carriers has recently increased the number of owned bulk carriers in it Babycape segment by acquiring four more eco 119,000 tonners from compatriot shipowner Hartmann Reederei. The vessels are: MV UBC Ottawa (tbrn: Roland Oldendorff), MV UBC Odessa (tbrn: Rex Oldendorff), MV UBC Olimbus (tbrn: Redmer Oldendorff) and MV UBC Oristano (tbrn: Rik Oldendorff). These ships were built for Hartmann at Sinopacific Shipbuilding in 2011.
