Eastern Launches Tug for Suderman & Young

Eastern Shipbuilding Group, Inc. announced it has launched escort tug Triton for Suderman & Young Towing Company on September 11, 2015.   The launch ceremony was held at Eastern’s Nelson Street facility and hosted by Joey D’Isernia, President of Eastern, with employees and guests in attendance. Mike Nigro, V.P. of G&H Towing shared a few words about the quality work and commitment of the companies involved and Deacon Earl Mirus of St. John’s Catholic Church of Panama City blessed the vessel. Mikes wife, Lisa had the honor of christening the vessel.   Triton (ESG Hull #235), scheduled to for delivery in the fourth quarter of this year, is the first of a series four Z-Tech 2400 Class Terminal & Escort Tugs designed by Robert Allan, LTD. (RAL) and currently under construction at Eastern’s Nelson Street facility for Suderman & Young Towing Company. Eastern is also constructing an identical series of four tugs for Bay Houston Towing Company. G&H Towing Company is the Owners’ onsite Representative and Agent during the engineering, construction and delivery for both Suderman & Young and Bay Houston. G&H Towing Company will operate the vessels after delivery.   Robert Allan, LTD (RAL) of Vancouver, B.C. will provide the Z-Tech 2400 Class Terminal & Escort Tugs design and engineering. G&H Towing's fleet currently consists of eight “Z-Tech” tugs in operation


Eastern Shipbuilding Delivers H. DOUGLAS M

Eastern Shipbuilding Group, Inc. delivered the Escort Tug H. DOUGLAS M for Bay-Houston Towing Company on February 5th, 2016.   This series of Robert Allan, LTD. (RAL) designed Z-Tech 2400 Class Terminal & Escort Tugs is currently under construction at Eastern’s Nelson Street facility. The H. Training the Next Generation at Great Lakes Towing

Great Lakes Towing and Shipyard Add Two New Tugs

The Great Lakes Towing Company and Great Lakes Shipyard will celebrate their 115th anniversary with the delivery of two new 4,640HP FIFI 1 ASD tugs. Designed by Jensen Maritime Consultant, Inc., Seattle, Washington, the tugs AURA and ATLAS are built to the highest standards of the American Bureau of Shipping, the U.S. vessel classification society. The tugs were launched using the Shipyard’s 770-ton Travelift.


ESG to Build Four RA Tugboats

Eastern Shipbuilding Group (ESG) said that Suderman & Young Towing Company & Bay Houston Towing Company have placed orders for a total of four new Robert Allan, LTD. (RAL) Z-Tech 2400 Class Terminal & Escort Tugs at Eastern’s Panama City, Florida facilities. ESG added that G & H Towing Company will provide the onsite representation for both owners as their agent during the engineering, construction and delivery phases of these contracts.


U.S. Shipbuilding: ESG Nabs Two Z-Drive Tug Contracts

Eastern Shipbuilding (ESG) said that Suderman & Young Towing Company and Bay Houston Towing Company each exercised one additional Z-Drive Tug to be built at ESG.   This brings the total to six of the new Robert Allan, Ltd. Z-Tech 2400 Class Terminal & Escort Tugs built at ESG's Panama City, FL facilities.   G&H will provide the onsite representation for both owners as the owner's agent during the construction and delivery phases of the contracts.   


Washburn & Doughty Launches Fort Bragg

Fort Bragg, built by Washburn & Doughty for Cape Fear Towing Company of Wilmington, N.C., will be primarily used for docking shops and coastal towing. Fort Bragg was designed by Washburn & Doughty's naval architect and vice-president, Bruce Washburn, and built to ABS and USCG standards, but not classed. The vessel is powered by two Caterpillar 3516 electronic main engines rated at 2,200 hp at 1,600 rpm. These engines power two Ulstein model 1650H Z-drives

Massachusetts Modifies Application for No-Discharge Zone The Executive Office of Environmental Affairs (EOEA) for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts has modified the scope of an application for the designation of a "no-discharge zone." Towing Company to Pay $10M for Spill

The U.S. Attorney for the District of Massachusetts issued a Press Release stating the Bouchard Transportation Co. was sentenced to pay a $10 million fine in connection with the oil spill in Buzzards Bay on April 27, 2003. Great Lakes Shipyard to Build Damen Tugs

First Damen tugs to be built under license in the U.S.   An agreement was signed between Damen Shipyards Group and Great Lakes Shipyard for the latter to build two Stan Tugs 1907 ICE at its facility in Cleveland, marking the first instance in which Damen tugs will be built under license in the United States, according to the Ohio shipbuilder.   The ICE Class vessels will be operated by the yard’s affiliate company, The Great Lakes Towing Company

July 20 marks a milestone in Subchapter M implementation.   Towing vessels with keels laid or major conversions on or after July 20, 2017 are required to meet 46 CFR Subchapter M and obtain a Certificate of Inspection (COI) prior to operating.

Eastern Shipbuilding Group, Inc. said it launched on August 15, 2016 the final vessel in a series of four Z-Tech Class Terminal & Escort Tugs being constructed for Suderman & Young Towing Company. The tug Poseidon is scheduled to be delivered later in 2016.
