New Passenger Ferry for Seychelles’ Inter Island Express

A new 30-meter aluminum passenger ferry Isle of la Digue built by Richardson Devine Marine is the latest vessel designed by Incat Crowther for the Seychelles operator Inter Island Express. The catamaran newbuild, which required a very shallow draft to afford access to the operator’s confined harbor berth, is the first to feature Incat Crowther’s new generation propeller tunnel to reduce propeller draft and offer a flat transom which can integrate with standard fixed or active interceptor systems, the designer said.

Has the Fast Cat Come to A Halt?

Long hailed for its innovative "fast cat" vessels that were developed by Robert Clifford and Phil Hercus in the 1980's Incat Australia delivered not a new cat last month, but news of an impending bankruptcy. Could this be the end of the fast cats that have dominated the aluminum shipbuilding world for the past 20 years? During the first week of March the Hobart shipyard admitted that it was suffering from financial difficulties, and responded by laying off several hundred employees. In fact, according to Australian news sources, the yard has 1,000 less employees than it did one year ago — despite having won an $80 million contract from the U.S. Military for a 101-m high speed support vessel — transporting American troops throughout the Japanese Islands for the next three years.

Incat Crowther Opens Brazil Office

Incat Crowther announced the opening of an office in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil, created to meet the growing demand for Incat Crowther’s products and services in South America while placing Incat Crowther at the center of the South American Offshore Oilfield industry. The Incat Crowther Group said it has experienced significant international growth as a result of a track record of diverse vessel designs and unique consulting services. The office in Brazil is a reflection of this growth and will initially target specialized high speed aluminum ships for the local offshore support market.

Incat Sells Hull 058

A contract has been exchanged for the sale of Incat Australia’s 98m catamaran, hull 058, to a European customer. The purchaser is a long term Incat customer, and intends for 058 to join its two existing Incat vessels in operation for the northern European summer. Announcing the sale to staff at the Hobart shipyard, Incat Australia Managing Director, Craig Clifford said “The sale of vessel 058 has been foreshadowed for some time, and is great news for all Incat staff and supporters. The ship will be painted in the company’s colours over the next few weeks and is expected to depart Hobart for Europe in late April. The Evolution 10b design of hull 058 delivers proven technology in a vessel capable of carrying a mix of passengers and freight at speeds over 40 knots.

Bollinger Signs Deal With Incat

In a move which signals the long-awaited fast craft boom in the United States is about to begin, Bollinger Shipyards, Inc., Lockport, La., and INCAT AUSTRALIA Pty. Ltd. signed an agreement for Bollinger to market and build high speed craft to INCAT designs in the United States. The deal is significant in that earlier this year chief INCAT rival Austal Ships struck a deal with Mobile, Ala.-based Bender Shipbuilding to build a new shipyard in Mobile for the same purpose. INCAT is privately owned and is the innovator and builder of the world speed record holding Wave Piercing and K Class aluminum catamarans. The 27 year-old company has built over 30, or approximately 40% of the worldwide fleet of high-speed passenger ferries over 230 feet (70M) in length.

Incat is privately owned and is the innovator and builder of the world speed record holding Wave Piercing and K Class aluminum catamarans. The 27-year-old company has built more than 30, or approximately 40 percent of the worldwide fleet of high-speed passenger ferries over 230 ft. in length.

Located in Southampton, United Kingdom, the office has been created to support a growing European client base and meet the demand for Incat Crowther’s products and services in the region, the company said. Spanish Ferry Operator Chooses Wärtsilä Waterjets

Wärtsilä said it has won a contract to supply waterjets for a new high-speed ferry being built for Spanish owner Naviera Armas. The vessel is being built at the Incat shipyard in Tasmania, Australia, and the order with Wärtsilä was booked in August 2017. The 109-meter-long, wave-piercing vessel will be the third Incat-built high-speed catamaran to join the Naviera Armas fleet, all three of which incorporate Wärtsilä waterjets. The new ferry will commence operations in 2019, and the four Wärtsilä waterjets with a control system will be delivered to the yard in October 2018.

Incat LNG Fast Ferry Begins Trials

Incat's dual fuel fast ferry has commenced sea trials in Hobart Tasmania. The 99-meter vessel's twin LNG tanks were loaded with LNG for the first time last week. Testing of the gas system went underway with the GE LM2500 gas turbine engines being run on gas for the first time on May 27 at the wharf and at sea on May 30. The gas trials are scheduled to continue. Lopez Mena (Incat hull 069) was sea trialed with ballast for a 1,460-ton displacement trial comfortably exceeding 50 knots at full power and maintaining a steady 49 knots at 90% power while operating on marine distillate.

News: Incat Vessel Wins Award

Incat received the award for Most Significant New Build - Fast Ferry, at the biennial event for the ferry, fast ferry and cruise industry, The Cruise and Ferry Exhibition and Conference, held in London in mid-May. The award was presented to builders Incat and owners Bollinger/Incat USA for the 322-ft. U.S. Army Theater Support Vessel TSV-1X Spearhead. Incat Australia Pty Ltd. Managing Director Craig Clifford said "Incat to some extent were 'reigning champions' having also taken the Most Significant New Build - Fast Ferry award at the last Cruise & Ferry event in 2001 with the 96 m Evolution 10 Benchijigua Express for Fred. In November 2002, when Incat delivered Spearhead for service with the U.S. Army, expectations were high.

U.S. Army Accepts Spearhead

USAV TSV-1X Spearhead has been completed at the Incat shipyard in Hobart to meet US Army requirements and delivered to owner Bollinger/Incat USA for charter to the US Army Tank-Automotive and Armaments Command (TACOM). Speaking to the official party and distinguished guests at the acceptance ceremony, Incat Chairman Robert Clifford said “The United States Army is to be soundly congratulated for having the foresight and vision to recognise the capability of our craft and the contribution they can make towards Transformation. They are to be congratulated also for taking that vision to the next step – not just studying it and talking about it, but actually moving forward and doing it”.

HSV 2 Swift Completes Sea Trials

In a world first for a commercial based High Speed Craft (HSC), certified and operated in accordance with the HSC Code by American Bureau of Shipping (ABS), USN HSV 2 Swift has completed very comprehensive heavy weather sea trials in the North Atlantic Ocean. HSV 2 Swift is a 98 metre Incat SeaFrame configured to US Navy specifications and is designed by Revolution Design in Tasmania, Australia, and built by Incat Tasmania, also in Tasmania, Australia. HSV 2 Swift is contracted to the US Navy, through Military Sealift Command by Bollinger Incat USA.

World-first Incat LNG Ship To Operate In South America

Australian shipbuilder Incat Tasmania Pty Ltd is pleased to announce the name of the customer for their world first high speed passenger Ro-Ro ship powered by LNG (Liquified Natural Gas). The 99 metre LNG ship was contracted by South American company Buquebus in November 2010, however for commercial reasons Buquebus requested that identity be kept under wraps. They have now announced that they will operate the vessel on their River Plate service between Buenos Aires, Argentina and Montevideo in Uruguay.

Bollinger INCAT USA -- Marking Its Territory

Known for its sleek, fast and high-performance wave-piercing catamarans, Incat Australia expanded its reach to U.S. shores with its decision last year to partner with Lockport, La.,-based Bollinger Shipyards for the construction and design of a new breed of high speed, aluminum fast craft for operation in the U.S. Wanting to break into the U.S. military market, Bollinger Incat USA is poised to establish a new breed of fast ferry construction that will meet the needs of the U.S military forces. The company also plans to position its vessels as a means to alleviate traffic on highways with its plan for high-speed, high-performance freight vessels, which will be able to carry a mix of semi-trailers and freight vehicles.

Incat Tasmania Pty Ltd, Australian shipbuilder, has secured a contract for the construction, delivery and long term charter of a large fast vehicle ferry for Danish company Mols-Linien A/S. The Ferry will be the fourth Incat vessel in the Mols Linien fleet. Fast Ferry Contract for Incat

Australian shipbuilder Incat has been awarded a contract for the design and construction of a large new vehicle-passenger ferry for a major European operator. The new vessel for Naviera Armas is the second vessel in Incat’s new generation 109 meter high speed wave piercing catamaran range and will operate in Spanish waters when delivered in early 2019. Born out of theIncat 112 meter, the concept was redesigned from the keel up by Incat’s in-house naval architects and engineers at Revolution Design Pty Ltd.

Incat Delivers Ferry to Trasmediterránea

Incat announced that Trasmediterránea S.A., one of Spain’s ferry operators, has accepted delivery of Incat Hull 058. The 98 metre Evolution 10b Wave Piercing Catamaran has been named Milenium Dos (Millennium 2 – Spanish spelling) and will depart on her delivery voyage to Spain, via the Panama Canal, next week under the command of Captain Eduardo Bonet de La Presa. On arrival in Europe Milenium Dos will enter service between the Spanish mainland and the Balearic Islands in time for the summer season. The acquisition brings to three the number of Incat-built ships in the Trasmediterránea fleet, confirming the operator’s preference for proven high quality tonnage from a builder unrivalled in the field of dedicated high speed ship construction.

Incat and Revolution Design Awarded Design Contract by U.S. Military

Incat Holds World Record for Two Decades

Twenty years ago headlines around the world announced a new world record, the fastest crossing of the Atlantic Ocean, by an Incat Tasmania-built ship. June 23 marks twenty continuous years that Incat-built fast ships have held the record for the fastest Transatlantic Crossing. On June 23, 1990 Hoverspeed Great Britain, a ship built by Incat in Tasmania, for operation between England and France by Sea Containers Ltd, broke the record for the fastest crossing of the Atlantic Ocean by a commercial passenger ship.
