Another Ferry Delivered to MBTA in Boston

Vigor Delivers Third Passenger Ferry to San Francisco

New Larger Ferry Arrives in NYC

Ridership on the new NYC Ferry system has far exceeded expectations, serving 5 million passengers since the service was launched in May 2017. Now, in response to the record-breaking demand, new larger-capacity ferries are being built for New York waters, the first of which, Ocean Queen Rockstar, has arrived in New York this week.Ocean Queen Rockstar, the first in a series of six new 350-passenger capacity vessels being built for the NYC Ferry fleet, completed sea trials and journeyed 2,200 nautical miles from builder Metal Shark’s Gulf Coast shipyard to New York Harbor earlier this week.

Catamaran Ferry Delivered to Ultramar

Mexican operator Ultramar has taken delivery of Ultramar II, the second in a series of new high capacity 48m catamaran passenger ferries.Ultramar II was built by Midship Marine in Harvey, La. and is specifically designed for the operator’s busy Playa de Carmen – Cozumel run, offering high capacity, high durability and a world-class passenger experience.According to designer Incat Crowther, the vessel’s fitout is yacht-like in keeping with Ultramar’s ‘Experience Innovation’ motto and includes aquarium-themed feature walls and glass pieces…

Shipbuilding: “We had shipyard for dinner …”

The Duclos family is iconic in boatbuilding circles, as the Somerset, Mass.-based Gladding-Hearn, Duclos Corporation, has built a strong heritage in the pilot boat and fast ferry sectors, and in total more than 425 vessels have been delivered since it was founded in 1955. Today a trio of second-generation siblings run the yard, brothers and co-presidents John and Peter Duclos with sister Carol Hegarty serving as CFO. Second Fast Ferry Delivered in Massachusetts

The second of two new high-speed catamarans from Gladding-Hearn Shipbuilding has been delivered to the Massachusetts Bay Transit Authority (MBTA).Funded by a grant from the Federal Transit Authority (FTA), M/V Glory will pair with her sister-ship to provide year-round commuter service in Boston Harbor, replacing the high-speed ferries built by the Somerset, Mass. shipyard in 1997.Designed by Incat Crowther, the all-aluminum ferry is 88.7 feet LOA, 28.8 feet abeam, and draws approximately four feet loaded.

High-speed Catamaran Delivered to VS Grand Ferries

Austal Limited has delivered a 30-meter high-speed aluminum catamaran for VS Grand Ferries of the Philippines. The vessel was designed by Incat Crowther and built at Austal’s shipyard in Balamban, Cebu.The new vessel, named MV Seacat, provides capacity for 300 passengers at speeds up to 25 knots. The new ferry is first locally operated vessel to be built to achieve Pioneer status, an enhanced safety standard rating in the Philippines, with the Maritime Industry Authority (MARINA).Austal said it secured the A$5.5millon contract to build the vessel in August 2017…

AFAI Launches New Cat Passenger Ferry

Chinese shipbuilder AFAI has launched a new 40-meter catamaran passenger ferry for domestic operator Zhuhai Fast Ferry Company.The new vessel, named Xin Hai Bin, is designed by Australia-based Incat Crowther, whose relationship with AFAI dates back to 1982, when the yard built the first Incat Crowther ferries to enter service in China. In 2018, Xin Hai Bin is the 50th Incat Crowther-designed vessel for operation in China.Xin Hai Bin is based on the Incat Crowther z-bow hull form used 2012’s Hai Ju and Hai Yao.

SMS Completes Hat Trick of European Refits

UK ship repairer and marine engineering services provider SMS has completed three refits this month. Wang Tak Launches Catamaran Passenger Ferry

A new 40m catamaran passenger ferry, Jiang Men, has been launched by shipbuilder Wang Tak in Hong Kong.The Incat Crowther designed Jiang Men is the third in a series that started with 2016’s Shi Zi Yang 7. Incat Crowther said it has continued to improve the design, realizing 8 percent improvement in fuel burn.Jiang Men is powered by a pair of MTU 16V2000 M72 main engines, each delivering 1080kW at 2250 rpm. Interceptors and Active Ride Control supplied by Humphree USA will help deliver a smooth and stable ride for the newest addition to the Seastreak ferry fleet.Seastreak Commodore, which was put into service this summer, is the biggest and fastest passenger ferry in the Seastreak fleet. The 150-foot catamaran can carry up to 600 passengers. The high-speed vessel makes daily commuter runs between Sandy Hook, N.J., and the East 35th Street terminal in New York City, with transit times of about 45 minutes.

Hybrid Ferry: Balearia's 125 Dual-Fuel RoPax Fast Catamaran

Balearia announced construction of the world’s first fast ferry for passenger and cargo powered by dual-fuel LNG engines. The Incat Crowther 125 design is a new class of ferry, being the first to use dual-fuel reciprocating engines and will also be one of the largest fast catamarans in service when it is delivered in 2020.The new design will be constructed by Spanish builder Astilleros Armon at their Gijon shipyard. The partnership of Astilleros Armon and Incat Crowther have together developed a high level of technical capability and capacity to deliver large aluminium catamarans.

Eco Vessel Features Silent Drive

Incat Crowther launched of Spirit of the Wild, a spectacular new tour vessel for Gordon River Cruises, and the first in Australia to operate in World Heritage-listed wilderness with Silent Drive. Offering interpretive tours into the heart of the UNESCO Tasmanian Wilderness World Heritage Area, Spirit of the Wild will give customers a unique natural experience. Built by Richardson Devine Marine, Spirit of the Wild is fitted with a pair of MTU 10V2000M72 main engines. Added to this is a cutting-edge hybrid electric system, consisting of a pair of ABB e-motors, driving Hybrid-ready ZF gearboxes.

New Ferry Seastreak Commodore Delivered

Seastreak’s newest vessel, Seastreak Commodore, has been developed in response to significant passenger volume growth and brings the operator’s fleet of Incat Crowther-designed vessels to a total of eight.The 45m-long, 600-passenger ferry built at the Gulf Craft shipyard in Louisiana is the highest capacity UCSG k-Class fast ferry ever built. Incat Crowther said it worked closely with Seastreak to develop the vessel’s layout and styling to allow 600 people to safely and comfortably undertake their daily commute.

Wight Shipyard Building Fast Ferry Duo for Mexico

Export orders continue for shipbuilder Wight Shipyard Co with a multiple vessel contract from Mexico’s largest ferry operator. The order for two new 37-meter passenger ferries comes from Ultramar, who until now has built all its high speed ferries in the U.S. The newbuils will be the first British vessels to be built for Mexico in living memory. “This order for Ultramar really is very satisfying as it continues our move into international markets,” said Wight Shipyard CEO, Peter Morton.

More MTU Engines Destined for Majestic Ferry in Singapore

Rolls-Royce is to supply more MTU engines to fast ferry operator Majestic Ferry in Singapore. Designed by Incat Crowther, a total of seven new fast ferries are being built at PT Cahaya shipyard in Batam, Indonesia over the next two years. Rolls-Royce is to supply 14 MTU engines for them by 2019. Each of the twin-hulled vessels is to be powered by two MTU 16V 2000 M72 units. “The determining factor for this follow-on order is the positive experience the operator has had with MTU engines and with our service,” said Chew Xiang Yu, a member of marine sales staff at MTU Asia.

A second catamaran ferry under construction at Gladding Hearn Shipbuilding in Massachusetts for Rhode Island Fast Ferry will expand on the success of the 2012-delivered Ava Pearl, meeting increased passenger demand and adding a new route to RIFF’s operation.The new ferry, scheduled to be delivered in 2019, has been designed by Incat Crowther to carry 320 passengers, more than twice the passenger capacity of Ava Pearl.The vessel utilizes Incat Crowther’s ‘S bow’ hulls which have demonstrated improved passenger comfort in the sea conditions typically encountered in the region.
