ASRY Organizes Third Raft Race Competition

The Arab Shipbuilding and Repair Yard Company (ASRY) held its third annual Raft Race Competition on the ASRY Beach on Saturday, November 18, 2023.More than a hundred contestants from the company’s employees and subcontractors participated. In addition, SULB Bahrain took part in this year’s competition as a new member, with the participation of two teams.This sporting event, which aims to enhance social bonds, witnessed a wide audience, attended by water sports fans who showed their utmost support and encouragement for their favorite team.

In the 45 years since the Arab Shipbuilding & Repair Yard (ASRY) opened on reclaimed land in Bahrain, the Middle East has become one of the world’s ship repair hotspots. A broad range of shipyards now service both regional and global markets.Regional yards have a ready market, with hundreds of offshore rigs working across the region together with the service ships that support them. Then there are thousands of tankers and gas carriers that arrive each year to load energy cargoes for far-flung destinations.

BW Offshore Says Fatal Incident in Indian Yard Not Related to Its FPSOs

Oslo-listed FPSO leasing company BW Offshore said Wednesday a fatal incident had occurred in the Priya Blue shipyard in India, but that it was not related to ongoing recycling of former BW Offshore FPSOs at the yard.BW Offshore said in February it had signed an agreement with Priya Blue Industries yard in India to recycle the Cidade de São Vicente FPSO in compliance with Hong Kong Convention. Arab Ship Shipbuilding and repair Yard (ASRY) and ONEX Shipyards Greece have signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the aim to jointly collaborate on knowledge and experience sharing in the sector of maritime repair, technology, optimization, modernization and to explore future business opportunities.The MOU signing ceremony took place virtually between the two companies in the presence of Kyriakos Mitsotakis, the Greek Prime Minister who was visiting ONEX shipyards at that time.

ASRY Sets New Safety Record

ASRY has set a new record for the longest period in the yard’s history without a lost time incident. On 22 May 2019, ASRY surpassed 5 million man hours, without an LTI, it’s longest recorded period of yard-wide safe work since the company was founded in 1977. AMPTC Inks Deal with ASRY for BWTS Installs

Shaw Takes the Helm at ASRY

Andrew Shaw has taken up his new position as chief executive at ASRY,  ship and rig repair yard in the Arabian Gulf. Effective January 4,  Shaw will lead the firm as it enters its 40th year of operation. He re-joins the company after previously holding the position of general manager of the ASRY Offshore Services division from 2009 to 2014. Shaw has more than 25 years experience in the global maritime industry. He was most recently group managing director for 2.5 years at a U.K. ship repair and conversion company.

ASRY Woos Back Greek Major Owner

ASRY has successfully brought one of the European tanker market’s biggest tanker fleet owners back to the yard. Euronav, the Greece-base owner, operator and manager of a fleet of 53 modern large tankers, chose ASRY for the recent repair of ‘Cap Diamant’, a  Suezmax tanker, which successfully completed the dry-docking in early September at ASRY. “Euronav is a leader in its field,” commented ASRY Ship Repair General Manager, Charles Maher, “so it was naturally very satisfying that they chose to return to ASRY after a 7-year hiatus.” The last vessel Euronav docked with ASRY was ‘Felicity’ in 2009. They currently have a fleet of 53 vessels mainly VLCC’s & Suezmax’s with many trading in the Arabian Gulf region regularly.

ASRY Reaches 100 Rig Milestone

ASRY appoints Acting Chief Executive

ASRY has appointed Magdy Mustafa as Acting Chief Executive, after the current Chief Executive announced his resignation to move back to Norway for family reasons. Magdy Mustafa, the current Procurement and Contracts General Manager will take on all Chief Executive duties in addition to his current role, effective from 1 September 2016. ASRY Launches Bahrain Coast Guard Landing Craft

ASRY has launched a new Landing Craft being constructed for the Bahrain Coast Guard (BCG), marking the latest checkpoint for the fully Bahrain-based project. The launch took place at ASRY in the Arabian Gulf in the presence of BCG Brigadier Ala Abdulla Seyadi, ASRY Chief Executive Nils Kristian Berge and other BCG officials. “Our close cooperation with the Bahrain Coast Guard has enabled us to stay on track for this landmark project for the Bahrain maritime sector,” confirmed ASRY New Construction & Engineering Senior Manager, Sauvir Sarkar, who is overseeing the project.

Maher Named Ship Repair GM at ASRY

 Charles Maher is the new Ship Repair General Manager (GM) at ASRY, bringin 15 years of experience with top firms including Dormac, Grand Bahamas Shipyards, and Southern African Shipyards.

ASRY appointed Charles Maher as the new General Manager (GM) of the Ship Repair division, effective January 4, 2016. Maher brings more than 15 years worth of corporate and hands-on technical shipyard experience at Dormac Marine & Engineering, Grand Bahamas Shipyard, and Southern African Shipyards. He will lead the newly restructured Ship Repair division of ASRY. Maher’s appointment will overlap with the outgoing Ship Repair GM, Magdy Sharkawy, who retires in February, to ensure a comprehensive transition of the role and a seamless client handover.

Bahrain: ASRY Moves into New Vessel Construction

One of the world's premiere ship repair facilities, ASRY based in Bahrain, unveils its move into new vessel construction. ASRY signed an agreement with the Bahrain Coast Guard to design and construct a new Landing Craft for the transport of vehicles, potable water, and fuel. The craft, potentially the first of two, will be delivered in 2016. The contract, worth approximately $2.8m, marks ASRY’s first newbuild contract since launching the New Construction & Engineering division, which is tasked with growing the new construction program at the yard.

ASRY Inks UK Royal Navy Support Contract

ASRY and Babcock have signed a long term support facility agreement to provide ongoing services to the U.K. ASRY (Arab Shipbuilding & Repair Yard), a shipyard in the Arabian Gulf, has signed a long-term collaborative enabling agreement with U.K. engineering support services company Babcock to undertake maintenance work on U.K. Royal Navy warships in the Gulf. The agreement will cover work from general maintenance to specific projects such as the changing of diesel generators under the Sandown Volvo Generator Program.
